- the difference is that as soon as I point out the tinyiest bad thing about the US - a thousand Americans beat heck out of me and tell me to stay away or shut up

Perhaps it's the way you say it?

Yorkshiremen are the texans of the UK - so I am straight talking like them

'Blunt 'doesn't even start to describe it - actually we make the texans looked silky tongued

I could do it like Tony Blair and grin as well but we have had 10 years of that slimy stuff and I am sure you would like to hear the truth really despite it's grating wrapper

Indeed. Most people don't like to be the subject of racial stereotypes.

Since when was American a race ? Half a million British pakistanis live within 50 miles of me - are they the same race as me ?

There must be some straight texans or the population wouldn't continue - but

it's probably British tourists that are doing most of the job nowadays!

Never said it was. I think you'll find that racism isn't strictly limited solely to ethnic divisions but applies equally to nationality.

It was a joke - a quote from a film for which I was told off - got to be original apparently

Been to a lot of other States and got caught speeding doing 58 in a 55 on that long straight road up from the florida keys without a car in sight either way -- airplane trap ... it was a fair cop

I paid my fine by bank transfer from the UK - I am a good boy !

Which country's or race's law are you quoting - no more Irish/Polish jokes eh ? only amongst consenting adults after they have been checked for wires...

and what do you think of the job that liitle american/ozzy actor did on the english with that blatantly false and racist film braveheart - that would be like us doing a film on American soldiers eating babies in iraq !

An 11 year old girl in Niedersachsen swore at me because I was English and I did that to the scots 700 years ago !

Come off it with the racist tripe - if I say yankee food is fattening you can't brand me as a racist - I was already at work when you guys were lynching black men so don't call me a racist

jeez you must think nobody was watching !

On that "drinking comment" before - I think CherryXS was right. I think someone's been spending too much time down the coal mine with the pit ponies ;)

ee-by-gum - ere be some stereotypes of a Yorkshireman.

Yorkshiremen (and women) are immensely proud of both their county (commonly referred to as "God's Own County") and their identity. It is sometimes suggested that Yorkshiremen identify more strongly with their county than they do with their country.

Yorkshiremen are often stereotyped as being warm and friendly but "bloody minded" (or stubborn) and argumentative.

The social stereotype of a Yorkshireman has a tendency to include such accessories as a flat cap and a whippet.

Another stereotype often heard in connection with Yorkshire workers is the proverb "where there is muck, there is brass", which means that the people of Yorkshire, of whom quite a lot worked in the coal mining industry, are digging in the dirt to make money (brass).

Journalist and broadcaster Sir Bernard Ingham recently wrote a book Yorkshire Greats: The County's Fifty Finest, in which he proposed a list of the greatest ever Yorkshiremen and women. The list included the likes of James Cook, William Wilberforce and George Cayley.

"Tyke" is now a colloquialism for the Yorkshire dialect, as well as the term some Yorkshiremen affectionately use to describe themselves, especially in the West Riding. "Tyke" was originally a term of abuse given by Yorkshire people to Londoners, because they thought their speech made them sound like yapping mongrel dogs (tykes). Londoners turned this around and used the term to describe Yorkshire folk

I'm familiar with Yorkshiremen. My brother-in-law is one. (I'm originally from England and the greater portion of my family is still there, including my sister and "the Yorkshireman". :) ) Yes, some are blunt. Just as some are gentlemen. You do realize that you are coming across in just as offensive a manner as those you so strongly protest against, don't you?

In case you missed it - I'm actually British ;) So personally speaking "I" wasn't doing any of those things, nor was I "quoting" any law. But then I'm not the one who's trying to write off an ethnically/culturally diverse country like the US on the basis of "white trash" stereotypes.

BTW - what does Braveheart have to do with this? You like to keep throwing in these little irrelevances into the mix to make it look like you have something interesting to say?

oh of course having a gin is the work of the devil in the US - I stood behind a 90 year old man in wisconsin and they would not sell him a beer coz he didnt have a driving licence to prove he was over 21 - now there is me criticizing america again !! will you ever forgive me...actually I like the Yorkshire stereotype - it's true ... I worked bagging up coal in railway wagons with black men which is more than most 60 year old Americans can say... and I flew concorde regularly and was imprisoned in saudi arabia too for wanting to break my contract and go back to my wife who was seriously ill - - so I have had a look around the world and I ain't no hick - I can ee-bye-gum it with the best as I was brought up with Victorian labourers - but I spent years in the City of London and I can 'oh yaaa Rupert' it as well.

In three years I will be able to Hi y'all it too - if I want to and nobody has called me a racist again !

Can't believe someone from the home of the Ku klux Klan is calling me a racist (against the American race) cos I don't want to show my driving licence every time I buy a beer

I need another gin - try to get in touch with reallity !
