She won't be here until this afternoon; about halfway here now, somewhere over Greenland or Canada (if you don't think about Great Circles, seems kind of strange that flights from the US west coast to Europe spend more time over Canada than any other country).

I once traveled from Amsterdam to Seattle across the polar route. We took off about an hour before sunset and chased the sun the entire way. Intuitively that doesn't make sense because the earth's surface rotates at about 1,000 mph and non supersonic jets travel around 550 mph, but near the poles the longitude become really bunched together and allows a jet to catch up to the sun. The sun finally went down for good over British Columbia.
