Awww... cute wee man...

Call the specialist who diagnosed the GBS and ask what's safe, si D ma'am.

We haven't seen the neuro surgeon in three years. Do you think they would still answer a question?

Ive read that people who've gotten GBS can't have vaccinations again ever?    I completely understand that you're worried and your son is the reason why we need herd immunity.  :(  I would also be scared, I have no advice for you here but wanted to sympathize.

This is what I have been told before. But for some reason I can't remember for sure what the doctor said. Thank you it is scary. I have never been so paranoid with any of the other kids.

That would be having kids. Everyone I know without them looks younger and well rested.

I remember him going through that, and I would be nervous too. Have you talked to the pediatrician about your fears?

Hard to believe this was 3 years ago and it still scares the daylight outta me. I haven't talked to the Pedi yet, she was going off what the Neuro surgeon said. His Well visit should be in March but I avoid going during flu season. I might email her and see what she says.

It's funny when it used to hit -45 for weeks on end -25 was like ice fishing with your coat off and enjoy the nice weather.

I still don't miss the cold from home. It's got down to freezing here not sure how much below but I'm happy with our short winters. I still love the heat.

Speaking of Canucks, I ran into some runners from Edmonton Alberta, back in the day, when I used to live in Montana (check out how much further North Edmonton is on the map). These crazy guys would run every day in the snow and cold until the temperature gauge would hit -30. At that point they claimed that their lungs would start seizing up as they sucked in the cold air.

Oh ya there are some hard core runners out there. My kids used to still have to go to school in -45 temps. The schools just used to do indoor recess for the kids.

Have been trying to get this place ready before pretty Russian girl gets here.

New couch, finally got a dining table, new TV (okay, that was for me and because the old one broke so of course the replacement is bigger, 4K, HDR, 'smart' … and cost about 1/3 as much), slowly clearing out boxes of books that I have on my Kindle or have no desire to re-read.

Also need to clear out old clothes and free up some closet space (she won't have much when she gets here, but I don't anticipate that lasting …)

Oddly domestic for a 40-something programmer ...

Dude, new sheets with a high thread count. I'd suggest flannel sheets but you live in SD. If you have a garage and don't have an automatic garage door opener yet, get that done. If you have one of those basic shower heads, spend about $50 on a better one perhaps with one of those auxiliary hand held units. You probably have this covered already but check out the nearest Russian cuisine in the SD or SoCal area so you're ready to pop there quickly when homesickness hits. Closet space... yes. Clean, clean, clean. No matter how much you clean it probably still won't be enough but at least you're closer to the end goal for once she arrives.

Handheld sprayers are mandatory.

I agree with the cleaning. Think about hiring a cleaning lady for a once over. I wouldn't know that from experience or anything.  😬

They have these masks with valves that warm the air as it enters your lungs, but no, I haven't seen anyone out running. They'd be more liable to slip and fall rather than anything else.

I think they will cancel statewide for below -30. There are too many kids that walk to school in this part of the country. Big town that we grocery shop in doesn't even have school buses. Our new governor used to be a high school teacher and has kids of his own, so I see it coming.

Yeah; it doesn't get cold enough for flannel here. Even on SoCal cold (aka high under 70 F) days.

I know there's at least one Russian place in SD on Yelp, and there's a World Market in the same complex as the nearest grocery store (which is borderline walking distance for a drive-everywhere American, but it's less than a mile and reasonably flat so I'd guess she'd think it's fine to walk there).

Not touching plumbing or electrical here, though; this place is a rental (last time I got the itch to start thinking about buying a place, my employer got acquired by someone that outsourced their development, and the housing bubble popped, so I'm glad I never actually got to the point of buying something then; starting to think about the idea again, but obviously I'd want her to look at any potential new home).

I'm almost certainly doing that, though closer to when she gets here.

No plumbing skills needed on the shower head. Just unscrew the old one and screw on the new one. You can take the new one with you once you leave apartment life. The feel of the adjusted spray is worth it alone and the handheld reaches all the spots that are difficult otherwise.

They've closed the schools here tomorrow and Wednesday due to the cold. I think the windchill decreased to -60, so there was some concern that the diesel fuel on the buses might not function correctly.

The Dane said no to wool dreadlocks.  I'm thinking of getting them anyway.

I'm surprised people have difficulty reaching spots when showering..... 😏

and LOL

officially gave notice at my current employment today.  Office manager wished me luck and we decided on a date for my exit interview.  Lead was sad.

I know the main reason for my stress is that I take things personally.  But it's who I am. c'est la vie.

I'm totally picturing someone with their toes up on the showerhead trying to get a good spray angle.

Brrr is right. Back home they are having it too. -50,  they canceled the school buses.

The schools are still open for the kids that walk or get dropped off. I'm pretty sure that is because the odd child's parent doesn't pay attention to the closing so then must have one teacher in the school regardless.

Sore throat and coughing Yay! just how I wanted to start my next round of shots. I've been itching ever day and night since vial set 3 back in Oct. I just started vial set 4 because we had to slow down for my body to adjust.

Did I mention I can't sleep anymore thanks to these shots. Oh and I've been sick since August. About the same time I started these shots. I'm about done with them and don't care if the nasal polyps come back. I couldn't breath through my nose since heck probably since birth :P  and I still can't after this surgery. Boy I'm starting to think I'm wasting my time.

are the shots for the things you're specifically allergic to or a steroid shot to help you build immunity to the allergen?

They are for the things I'm allergic too. I have one vial for air born and one vial for molds so I do two injections every other day. Each vial set is 10% stronger then the last. So after the first year I should see a big improvement. I don't know if I can hold on that long. They want me to do this for 3 yrs :(
