Used to visit the grandparents in middle North Dakota many decades ago. I remember it getting down in the -30's but I don't recall -35. And yeah, they don't do wind chill factor in that part of the country. Minus 35 is minus 35, with our without wind. All that said, the coldest weather I've ever felt was -20 in Chicago with the wind picking up moisture off the lake and blowing it right through my synthetic thermal layers and into my bone marrow. Luckily I was 24 yrs old and drank more hard liquor to keep warm than I ever had/have before and after.

It's funny when it used to hit -45 for weeks on end -25 was like ice fishing with your coat off and enjoy the nice weather.

I still don't miss the cold from home. It's got down to freezing here not sure how much below but I'm happy with our short winters. I still love the heat.

We remember our last night out with our best hyskool/college pal in Iowa before he moved overseas, see you man.

It was December, ungodly time in the Midwest man.

The mercury temperature was -Many (-[2x2x2x2+2+2]) F., or thereabouts man.

With wind, the effective temperature was -Many (-[2x2x2x2x2 + 2x2x2x2+2]) F., chill-boning man.

After a bit of imbibing, pal had to relieve himself hurriedly, #1 priority man.

However, we were near no amenable facility and were layered like Eskimos, self-protection man.

He decided to go behind a dumpster, only private place man.

He returned with cold-reddened face looking very green and said, "I'm never going to do that again, no man," ouch man.

I think I saw something about it hitting -50 to -60 with the wind chill?  There is some talk of our new governor closing schools in the state. Who knows about ND; they can be weird. Either way, it is going to be an irritating week.  I can't really let the oldest walk to school in that cold and the alternative is bundling up the other kids, fiddling with putting them in the car seats, etc.  All to go a 1/4 of a mile.

Maybe I can corner one of the neighbors and get her a ride. One of them has been driving their teen to make sure she doesn't wander.

I usually note that when it is really cold here, it is always colder in some part of Canada. In my head I picture those parts as being places where humans are hunted by polar bears. That is probably not very accurate though.

He's riding a bike on the sidewalk, not yielding to me walking the dog.

So, the dog barks at him.

I'm saying "No!" to the dog, but he stops to yells at my dog (continuously)....

So, I said to him, "Get off the ####### sidewalk azzhole!"

He looks at me, I'm like "Yeah, you and your ##### bike get off the sidewalk!"

Scared, he rides away on the sidewalk.

Fooks are not here to conform......

This is ALL day long here now, having to dodge illegals on ebikes and bikes on sidewalks.....

I happen to know from personal experiece that -40F is the same as -40C.  Im glad I do not live where it gets that cold anymore.  It was -9C here thr other day and I said, oh it feels like winter in Canada.
