Even worse than regular hospitals are most V.A. hospitals, and worse yet are many nursing homes, sigh man.

Oh ya the mother in law was in rehab (it was a nursing home) and the horror of things I saw while there was disgusting.

Every time my partner and I were sent to a nursing home to take a patient to the hospital for assessment I thought the same thing. I will get you out of here, even if only briefly.

 

I used to take my NZ flatmate to see her Mum, and I was struck by how awful the place was. Everyone who could be propped up was sat in a chair in the TV room watching cartoons. Most of them had no idea where they were. Her Mum was persistently vegetative for 9 years. I understand her reluctance to ever go to a place like that.  They are just warehouses really. Aud used to say "look at all these poor people, waiting for god. And they get to do it immersed in the Eau de Anne-Marie Rest Home miasma...boiled cabbage and urine".

 

My own Mum has Alzheimer's. She was first in a secure ward, as she wandered. Now she is mostly in a chair by day, and put to bed after dinner. She's never truly conscious anymore.  My younger sister was all for taking her home to stay with her, but it was not a workable option.

 

My MIL has apparently taken up online shopping.  My sister in law was upset, I hear, when she came in from shopping herself to find 47 Amazon parcels on the step, and 27 cases of wine as well. She's had to have her declared unfit to manage her own affairs.  I hope she has the sense to disable the wifi.

I've been in our local one a fair number of times between work and the kids going for field trips or trick or treating. It seems nice. They seem to really care about the patients and it is very well kept inside.

 

Good ones do exist out there somewhere.

Productive, albeit disappointing not to find some of what we sought man:

 

-- shirt for Mini-B.'s cousin; Many (2+2+1) books for Mini-B. = buck-&-a-half, steal man

-- sleep-pants & Many (2+1) blouses for Mrs. T-B.; Many (2+2) warshcloths; Many (2+2) 

       pillowcases = $Many ($2+2+2), steal man

-- pack of party plates; Many (2+2) nearly full boxes Kleenex; 2 warshcloths = $Many ($2+1), 

       steal man

-- Many (2+1) shirts for Mini-B.'s cousin = buck-&-a-half, steal man

-- Many (2x2x2+2+1) books for Mini-B. = $Many ($2+2+1), OK man

-- large bag rubber bands = $1, deal man

Total = $Many ($2x2x2x2+2)

 

Were hoping to find bedsheets for sisters-in-law, gift we man.

Saw many, but not matched/torn/stained/whatever, sigh man.

Will continue the sheet safari, intrepid we man.

Went to Dollar General with a $Many-off-a-$Many-purchase coupon, free money man.

Our purchase totaled exactly Many (2+2+1) cents over the required $Many, take that man.

We were (and remain) sufferably pleased with ourself, Financial Typhoon we man.

And we needed all the stuff that we got, too, wonderful man.

Took the Ecus, Mini-B., & Mini-B.'s bad-influence amigo to din-din at Denny's, coupon for Many% off man.

Amigo was out of control, nearly disciplined him we man.

We felt really bad for nice waiter, patient he man.

 

Being raised by single mother who wanted baby without having husband, explains a lot of it man.

Unfortunately going to see a whole lot of him all summer, sigh man.

Very, very bad influence for Mini-B., but good amigos so nought can do about it, sigh man.

Mrs. T-B. doesn't care much because

  1.  she & amigo-mommy are close amigas, si man

  B.  anything that gets Mini-B. out of her hair seems to be acceptable, empresaria she man

Sigh, man.
