So, Nikkie, master, or mistress rather, of working out... how do I incorporate deadlifting into my workout routine? I've been doing these Les Mills workouts for a while with lower weights with high repetitions, so I thought I'd try it, and it isn't so bad. I was terribly worried about my back, but it seems that was an unfounded fear.  Anyways, how often should I do it and how many reps am I looking for? Am I supposed to be going for the max I can lift or within my comfort zone?

Its a compound lift so you'd want to do it after warming up.  If you're worried about your back try sumo style vs conventional.  I wouldnt deadlift more than twice a week and I tend to make it a heavier lift.  Mine are generally 3 x 4-6 reps at 85%of my 1rm, but start out with lower reps.  8-12 it think.  

If strength is something you want try 5x5 with all your sets.

Thanks! Strength is where I am going for sure. A fair number of the people I work with aren't in great shape, but the agency I'll be doing clinicals at next year is different.  I'm kind of scared to find out my max, but I can probably guess it, and backtrack from there.

Use math for max.  I never do an actual 1rm. 3rm at most.

The Dane said the overland flooding was beginning to creep up on the roadway this morning. For those not aware, this is basically when the ditches fill with water and the nearby fields become lakes. The roadway is raised several feet above the fields, but perhaps this was an area where it was only a foot or so. I can't imagine that will get better before I go on call for the weekend tomorrow night. I think we are supposed to get 4-6" of snow.
