As a reward for Mini-B.'s reportedly successful book presentation, we offered him a choice for din-din, see man.

 

"Son, as a reward for your book presentation, you can have canned spaghetti & meatballs, chili, or we go to Arby's.  Which do you want, huh wee man?"

 

Mini-B. [without averting eyes from tablet]:  Spaghetti & meatballs.

We [confirming]:  You don't want to go to Arby's, huh wee man?

Mini-B. [not averting eyes from tablet]:  Spaghetti & meatballs, Daddy!  Mommy never lets me have them.

 

Mini-B. ate one entire can and then ordered another can, chip off the ancestral block wee man.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

Thankfully, we were able to order them by 3 inch height ranges, so it isn't too short...just furiously too big.  That was the smallest width one, but they have two widths bigger that could be ordered.  I think it might be because they are unisex. I think it would look ok on a guy.

We all encounter [insert swear word]'s on the road but I have special enmity for a particular type of good Samaritan who try to get me to make a left turn in front of them on a busy city arterial. Basically, these GS's who are stopped in the left lane going the opposite direction are waving me on, encouraging me to make the left while I can't see bupkus on what's coming in the middle and right lanes. It's an invitation to suicide. And I ride a motorcycle so it truly would be suicide. While I would like to flip the bird at these GS, instead I furiously wave them forward so that traffic can clear all 3 lanes and I can make the gol dang left turn.

My last final of the degree is finished. I thought I'd feel some overwhelming rush of relief or done-ness.

Delayed shock. It didn't hit me until the Hooding ceremony where I totally embarrassed myself by audibly sobbing with relief when my academic mentor draped the hood over my shoulders. Congrats on your graduation.
