Very confused. I am a US citizen and live in London and had to file the I-130 at the London embassy. I recently received back the approval of Form I-130. Am I supposed to wait to receive a packet to complete? (how long does that take) Or am I supposed to file form I-129.

Please help I am so confused and I just want to keep the process moving.

I would really appreciate any advice.

First of all congrats on the approval. Next stage your approval will go to NVC. Do you have someone in the USA receiving your post? Do you receive all correspondence from USCIS etc? The next stage is you and your SO will receive forms to fill in etc asking for choice of agent. Then that agent will receive the Visa bills etc. Do you have a sponsor as you said you are currently living in the UK? Sorry for all the questions but in order to answer your questions we just need a little bit more info.

You need to go to NVC forum and start reading about NVC process, shortcut, etc.

I-130 Timeline with USCIS:

It took 92 days for I-130 to get approved from the filing date

NVC Process of I-130:

It took 78 days to complete the NVC process

Interview Process at The U.S. Embassy

Interview took 223 days from the I-130 filing date. Immigrant Visa was issued right after the interview

You filed I-130 to the Embassy that means you did DCF. Once your petition is approved you will receive instructions from the Embassy. If you started the process in person at the Embassy you will receive packet 4. If you started the process using the mail you will receive packet 3 followed by packet 4.

DCF Frankfurt Germany

01/12/2007 I-130 filed in person at the Consulate in Frankfurt

01/17/2007 Faxed the checklist to the Immigrant Visa Unit in Frankfurt

03/29/2007 Got letter from USCIS to provide evidence that our marriage is bona fide

04/02/2007 Sent to USCIS lots of evidence

05/03/2007 I have an unofficial "PETITION APPROVED" ...waiting for confirmation from Consulate

05/07/2007 Received email from USCIS ROME confirming that our petition was approved (why Rome? because we complained to the District Office Rome about the Sub-Office Frankfurt..it took too long for our petition to be approved)...now waiting for the interview letter from the Consulate

05/18/2007 E-mail from IV Frankfurt, our interview was scheduled for May 29th

05/19/2007 Packet 4 in the mail: ja ja ja interview letter

05/29/2007 Interview at 7.30 a.m. APPROVED Thank you, God!

06/01/2007 Visa arrived !

06/03/2007 Mayday on the plane POE Cincinnati

Living in Maryland

06/21/2007 Welcome Notice from USCIS

06/29/2007 Applied for SSN at the local Office

07/07/2007 Green Card arrived

07/09/2007 Another 2 Welcome Letters from USCIS...God, they really love me! :D

07/20/2007 Social Security Card arrived

01/18/2009 PCS-ing to Stuttgart Germany

Feb 2009 Received letter from VSC to start removing conditions.

Getting ready the packet for Removing Conditions I-751

03/12/2009 Mailed the I-751 packet to Vermont Service Center

LKC - Please ignore the comments about NVC. That is not relevant to your case. The K3 visa and I-129f petitions are also not relevant to your case. You're one of the lucky ones being able to file directly with London and the whole process is faster and better than what those living in the US separated from their loved ones have to go through.

US Immigration Timeline

24 Feb 2007 - Sent I-130 to London USCIS office (I'm the petitioner)

25 May 2007 - NOA2

2 June 2007 - Received Packet 3

12 Oct 2007 - Sent Packet 3 back by special delivery

5 Nov 2007 - Interview in London - Approved without any hitches!

7 Nov 2007 - Visa and MBE arrived by SMS! :)

30 Jan 2008 - Fly to Michigan!! :)

*Note: Any delays in our case are only due to us taking things slowly
