When you're on vacation, you still receive your pay check at the REGULAR time.  You don't receive it when you're off vacation.  So no they're not "better off"

Indeed. Also not being able to put food on the table, pay your bills, or afford your medication is also not better off.

Agree but in the end it is going to be a paid vacation. I think that is the point that was being made.

Not for people who are required to show up for work.

Now on that point we agree. If they are not paying you then they should not be able to force you to show up

I don't consider it a paid vacation NB. My husband gets a paid mandatory vacation at the end of the school year for winter break, the paychecks come in right on time with no disruption or delay. A paid vacation is one where someone can relax with their family without worrying how they will be paying their monthly bills or afford their medications - the paychecks continue to arrive. That's not to mention those employees who won't even be receiving a back pay at all, or those who are being forced to show up to work and are not being paid. Employees who would like to take measures such as securing another job are unable to do so because of laws that stipulate they must have clearance from the government, and still others are being turned away from those second jobs, because who is going to hire you temporarily like that? There are also several examples of those who aren't even government employees that are being affected because of no funds. Talk like ''oh it's just a little vacation'' and ''just enjoy it'' come off as callous at a time when it is hurting people.

What works best is if there are areas of government work that are not needed or overstaffed or that kind of thing, they should reduce staff permanently, lay off temporarily, or transfer workers as is necessary. However if those areas of government work are actually needed, they should quit the BS shutting down and playing political games as if we are some 3rd world country.

^^ This.  However, it is not that simple.  The government, in its infinite wisdom, has made it easy to hire people who are not really skilled, to do a job that doesn’t require much effort, but said people may NOT be fired without a LOT of paperwork.  Letting a gubmint employee go is nearly impossible short of them committing a crime, or somehow doing their job so poorly that years’ worth of fitness report indicate that they are slackers.

Exactly. I hope the shutdown continues for as long as it takes for almost everyone one of the government workers to find other employment. In the meantime slash at least 50% of the total government workers/jobs in all areas except military.

Trump should declare a national emergency and also do whatever he can to continue the shutdown.  Deport those workers who complain to Mexico or other southern countries. If they want to go to Canada...they can pay their own way. They clearly do no respect our immigration laws and as such they should be charged with treason and deported or worse.

Are we deporting citizens and lprs? Who will deport the workers? You shut down the immigration courts.

Ideas like that typically have no place in a Democratic Republic.

Not really man. You're sliding on ice here. Let Jesus take the wheel and get that vehicle back in gear.

Its mostly just my wish list.  I have a Dream!!    We will have to wait a few months to build the wall so these slackers and losers can self deport to Mexico. Once the wall is built it won't be so easy to slip back across across the border.

Only dishonest or stupid people claim the wall won't work. We already have a perfect and similar wall that went up and has reduced illegal crossing by 99%. Just look at the wall they put up in Israel.  The result is clear. The wall works.....and will be a beautiful thing. Cant wait to visit it!
