Hard to pay the rent/mortgage and buy food with back pay though. Considering half the population lives paycheck to paycheck, the ramifications of a long shutdown will be real and lasting. The whole situation with these shut downs being used for political bargaining is asinine.

Why does half the population live paycheck to paycheck?  As to the political bargaining, I agree, this is a joke, it is time for the Democrats to show they can actually compromise.

now that i have taken my time to share this video of Trump criticizing Obama on the 2013 shutdown, would any of his staunch supporters agree with his comment if it is to be applied to himself?

That is, "the top" should be fired? (it is just a 30 sec clip should not be hard to digest).

Also, 2013, no one was PROUD to shut the gov down. that is another major difference of the 2 shutdown.

Did I mention a "wall" in my post?  I believe I said "border security".  Since you are making assumptions, can I assume you are in favor of open borders and sanctuary locales?

Other than blaming Trump alone for the debacle, I do not disagree with most of what you've said about the shutdown.  It at least scares people, adding stress to anyone who is affected.   I have been there, I had to go to work anyway,  so I know what I felt like (back in history,  when you weren't affected; I was, as were many of my colleagues).  So I tend to empathize with those affected.

I simply asked because we here in CEHST are a pretty small group, and regardless of differences of opinion on politics, it never hurts to try and put oneself in someone else's shoes to better understand their POV.

What are your estimates on the cost of maintaining a wall?

If i am paid to come up with the numbers, I would go with the thought process of @NikLR .

You get the numbers and lets see how many CBP agents it will take to man this wall after it's built, at the cost of probably $40/hr wage for each of them working no more than 10 hour days, and getting premium pay at night, for overtime, plus on weekends, especially Sundays.

I'm curious!

and go!

Expand

Still, as i have said, i would expect those who are in favor of the promised wall, especially since it had been used to rally the base during the election, and now half of the term of the current President has passed, those numbers are not readily available, that really shows something (or lack of).

Why not use agencies like what they had done with the Tax change - OMB and/or CBO for example (which shows after the tax cuts, it will add 1 trillion deficit to the debt - and now need to add more - the cost of maintaining the wall)?

So you are telling me that you are responding to yourself?  I will take it then that you are not in favor of border security.

As to the actual "wall" there are quite a few stories of those in the CBP (both leadership and agents) that are very much in favor of a wall, or permanent barrier.  You can do your own research.

i had been responding to the context of the discussion, about THE WALL. and in my comment which you responded to, i specifically said THE WALL.

This shutdown is , and has always been about THE WALL.

You can also do your own research of why the current shutdown happened (who in the office refused to sign a Congress approved budget back on Dec 20th and will PROUDLY shutdown the government affecting 800,000 livelihood just to get money to pay for the wall which he promised Mexico will pay)

Yes, it takes two sides and in general, it is the Democrats that get what they want and the GOP that capitulates.  It would be nice to see it happen the other way around once in a while.

Last I checked, the House had sent a bill to the Senate on December 20th that included money for your wall.  The Senate didn't vote on it because Chuck said he would threaten any Democrat senator that even considered voting for it.  It seems this shut-down is all about Democrat Party politics.  It would be refreshing if the Dems could actually vote their conscience and not have to follow in lockstep with their Dear Leader.

Do you have a short memory? Wasn't too long ago that the GOP strategy was taking the ball and going home. They really should have tried harder to get things done the last 2 years when they had majorities in both houses. It's not going to get easier losing the house, and after 8 years of the tea party BS, I doubt they can expect anything less from the Democrats.
