It makes a difference if one takes what he says figuratively, rather than literally.  In fact, it makes all the difference.

My rebuttal: the Electoral college elected an actual not figurative President.  He is the leader of the free world and he sought out the job. He should step up his game.

Hey if you want to defend the President, be my guest.  Don't expect much quarter when he says and does idiotic things, which is daily.  On other threads I see folks poking fun at Ms Occasional Cortex and Pocahontas , whatev.

You assume I am defending him, you are fixated on a comment he made regarding funding of the wall, it was bluster, it was overstating his hand, it was not however the end of civilization.

Funny how the people with TDS keep telling us a wall is not needed, but the men and woman guarding that wall say it is very much needed.

You don't want the truth because deep down in places you don't talk about at parties, you want me on that wall -- you need me on that wall.

Cool, right after using one fallacy, you resorted to another one. Nice contribution to the discussion. Thanks

“If you say who gets fired it always has to be the top,” Trump responded.  “Problems start from the top and they have to get solved from the top. And the president’s the leader. He’s got to get everyone in a room and he’s gotta lead. But he doesn’t do that,” Trump added, referring to Obama.

“And that’s why you have this horrible situation going on in Washington. It’s a very, very bad thing and it’s very embarrassing worldwide.”

He also noted that when people look back on a shutdown in history, they’re “going to be talking about ... who the president was at that time. They’re not going to be talking about who was the head of the House, the head of the Senate, who’s running things in Washington.”

It was not A bluster.  He has repeated the claim that Mexico will pay for the wall twenty times at least since becoming president, and ran on that platform.  Now he claims Mexico has  paid for the wall.

Now his "bluster" has led to a government shut down.  Not the end of civilization, but not wining.

I cannot predict how much it will cost to maintain a wall on the border.  I do know the Chinese managed to do it for centuries.  But I’m willing to bet it will be far less than the current $135 billion we spend annually on illegal immigrants.  That’s why I predict it will pay for itself rather quickly.

someone else said 250 billion...is it 135 billion now?

Can we subcontract the wall out to the Chinese? They seem to know how to do it. It took 3,000 years though...can we save money if we wait?

haha, that "someone else" is that one guy that keeps tweeting false stuff unfortunately, and strange people did not quote his 250bil figure. i wonder why?  🤔

his exact tweet here:

Could somebody please explain to the Democrats (we need their votes) that our Country losses 250 Billion Dollars a year on illegal immigration, not including the terrible drug flow. Top Border Security, including a Wall, is $25 Billion. Pays for itself in two months. Get it done!

Why illegal immigration savings wouldn’t cover wall’s cost "in two months"

Trump claimed that a $25 billion border wall would pay itself in two months, under a scenario where illegal immigration costs $250 billion a year.

There are obvious problems with the numbers. And overall, the total cost of a complete border wall is unclear. But the real problem is the comparison of one-time construction costs of a border wall to annual costs of net government benefits paid in excess of taxes received.

"Building a wall doesn’t magically remove unauthorized immigrants already in the country," said Ryan D. Edwards, a research associate at the Berkeley Population Center and a curriculum coordinator in UC Berkeley's Division of Data Sciences, in an email. "Only deportations do."

Trump's claim also overlooks the complexities of congressional appropriations and the reasons why many Democrats are hesitant to fund the wall. Democrats say the wall is too costly. They also say there are other ways to secure the border, including the use of technology surveillance and more border patrol agents.

A February 2017 study from the Center for Immigration Studies, which favors low-immigration levels, analyzed data from the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine. The study considered data related to the likely education level of future immigrants crossing the border illegally and their estimated fiscal impact.

"If a border wall prevented 160,000 to 200,000 illegal crossings (excluding descendants) in the next 10 years, it would be enough to pay for the estimated $12 to $15 billion costs of the wall," the analysis said.

you also have to wonder, how many false claims he needs to make before some staunch supporters would finally realize: "Man, this guy lies, A LOT!" and  "Mexico wont actually pay for the wall, but us" (15% + 33% + 21%)
