Hello Everyone,

My spouse does not meet the poverty guidelines. As such, my mother-in-law will be helping us with the affadavit of support. My questions are as follows.

Does my wife complete form I-864 or my mother-in-law?

Which one of the two completes form I-864 A?

Is my mother-in-law a joint sponsor, subsititute sponsor, etc... (I'm assuming joint sponsor).

Thanks for your help in advance.

21 July Submitted I-129F To Vermont

18 August 2006 Received a request to provide more information we've met in the last 2 years

19 August 2006 Submit additional requested information

04 October 2006 I-129F approved at Vermont

07 November Received Packet 3 From Montreal For K1 Visa

08 November Submit form DS-230

21 November 2006 Submit Checklist

12 January 2007 We are put on wait list for interview

08 March 07 Contact Montreal Consulate and are told to wait for up to 4 months

April-May Phone calls and e-mails to Montreal Consulate are unanswered. Still Waiting

Your wife is the main sponser so completes the I-864. Her mother is a co-sponser and completes the I-864A.

We did two I-864 forms, not an I-864 and an I-864A --- now I am worried out of my mind!!!

CURRENT STATE OF AFFAIRS - I-130 petition for married sibling
2016

Jul 5 - Receipt date for I-130 petition for my over 21 brother and his wife (both in the UK)

2024

Feb 23 - Sent USCIS a message asking for a processing update

May 6 - Received an email response saying things were progressing normally but that waiting times might be longer

Sept 10 - NOA1 date
Sept 16 - NOA1s received

2014

Feb 25, 26 & 28 - got emails saying that the cases had been transferred to another office, then to my local office, and then just transferred and are being processed

Mar 17 - got email, attached to one case number only, saying that my A number was changed relating to the I-130 filing

Mar 20 - N-400 receipt date for my father
2021
Apr 21 - Biometrics appt.

Exactly. Even if your wife does not meet the requirements she must complete the I-864 as main sponsor then complete the second one with your joint sponsor information.

05/25/10 - N-400 package delivered in Phoenix, AZ

06/04/10 - Check cashed

06/10/10 - NOA received

06/16/10 - Case available online

06/17/10 - Case online showing RFE (Biometrics notice) sent on 06/16/10

06/21/10 - Biometrics Letter Received

07/08/10 - Biometrics appointment

07/07/10 - Walk in Biometrics

08/06/10 - Email / Text for for new case status: "Test and Interview"

08/09/10 - Interview Appointment letter received for 09/13/10

09/13/10 - Interview Approved!

09/13/10 - Same Day Ceremony! I am a US Citizen!

No. Why does this confusion continue? The I-864A is not for a joint/co-sponsor, it the contract between you as the sponsor and a household member who's income is being included on your I-864. Unless your mother-in-law lives with you, she should be filling out a I-864.

That is not true. Her mother-in-law has to complete a I-864, unless they both live in the same household.
