have you guys thought of CR-1 better if you have a budget problem? K-1 and time w/o work permit can and will be very expensive. I can tell you from my unemployed wife that stopped working back in Ukraine 1 month before and 7 months here. So no income from her. We manage just fine, but it is not the case for most people

Not so easy without money let alone the extended time to facilitate a marriage in Philippines

YMMV

Once you meet her again you can start the process.   But It also sounds like you will need a sponsor

totally agree. any immigration process and or other not involved cost, like lawyers, absences from work (not getting paid) and weddings cost etc, can add up to a ton of money.

This sounds like the start of one of the AOS posts we see sometimes on here about how someone brought their fiance here to get married, they get married, but no money to file for AOS at that time or in the foreseeable future.

We have had people on here who got married and did not file for AOS for their spouse and then wonder why their spouse is so mad at them.

The reality of bringing an immigrant to the US for marriage is that it is way more expensive than marrying another American.  An overseas courtship (sometimes with years of back and forth visits, like ours), the fees involved, and the delays in being able to work (K-1) all add up!

agreed, but even for couples with short periods of knowing each other....me and my wife for example. We knew each other short time and I took multiple trips just to see her every so often and paid for airfare to my home country for her to meet my family and me to see hers. Getting her here stateside and doing trips around the state(s) to visit places so she doesn't get bored....this is daunting if not planned properly.

We met for the first in the Philippines in March 2017. If I do not file by March 2019 do I have to return to the Philippines to see her again?

That's what is meant by within two years

YMMV

May I ask what can a sponsor do for me? My fiancee does have a friend here who said that she is willing to sponsor me.

Sponsor YOU?  Are you a US citizen?  If you do not meet the financial requirements to sponsor your fiancé, you would have to get a co-sponsor for her here in the US.

And just to reiterate, because it seems that there is still some confusion:  if you have not seen each other in person since March 2016, you will need to meet in person before filing.  There is no way around this.  If you do not, the petition will be denied and you will be out $535.

I suggest you do some in-depth reading on the basic requirements of the petition, as well as the financial requirements before you send any money to USCIS.
