I am in the process of submitting the civil documents for my wife's son (under 21 as of Sep 2017). The required documents, per the US Dept of State, are listed below:

  1. Passport Biographic Page
  2. Photographs
  3. Birth Certificate
  4. Police Certificate (China)

Her son currently doesn't have a passport, but is in process of getting one. When he does, I'm assuming it will have a biographic page?  Is anyone familiar with this requirement? Our deadline is Sept 2019...

Any help is appreciated!

Kind regards,

Zoey & Lorn

Not sure what your actual question is, but the biographic page of a passport is the one that contains the photo, name, date and place of birth, etc.  So yes, if he does not yet have a passport, you will need to wait until he receives one to submit the documents.

Another couple of questions...my wife says the police are requesting proof of why her son is needs his police record (part of his civil documents for the visa application).  Has anyone heard of such requests?  If so, what would I send?  Other than the CEAC's list of Civil Documents, I do not recall anything stating that the police record is required along with the other civil documents.

Kind regards,

Zoey & Lorn

If the son is 16 or over he will require a police certificate.

Yes, I am aware he needs a police certificate. That is not my question....where is it stated that this is required?  I need to send them a copy of that statement.  The link above doesn't list "Police Certificate"; it only says Civil Documents.

Please look at the link again, properly. It very clearly has a section for police certificates, as it has for the various other documents required. I have copied that section below for you in any case. If you want more than this to somehow prove he needs it, I can't possibly see what that might be.  (It also somewhat concerns me you haven't looked at these pages in detail as there may be something else you've missed.)

Police Certificates

If you are 16 years of age or older, you must submit a photocopy of a police certificate from all countries you have lived in using below criteria:

If you ... AND you... THEN submit a police certificate from...
Are 16 years old or older Lived in your country of nationality for more than 6 months at any time in your life Your country of nationality
Are 16 years old or older Have lived in your country of current residence (if different from nationality) for more than 6 months Your country of current residence
Have ever lived in another country for 12 months or more Were 16 years or older at the time you lived there The country where you used to live.
Were arrested for any reason, regardless of how long you lived in that city or country, and no matter what age you were   The city and/or country where you were arrested.
  • Send a photocopy of your police certificate(s) to NVC.
  • Bring the original police certificate(s) plus a photocopy to your visa interview at the U.S. Embassy or Consulate.

Note: Present and former residents of the United States do NOT need to submit any U.S. police certificates.

Important: Police certificates expire after one year, unless the certificate was issued from your country of previous residence and you have not returned there since the police certificate was issued. If at the time of your interview the following three items are all true, you must bring a new police certificate to your visa interview:

  • You are more than 16 years old;
  • The police certificate submitted to NVC was obtained more than one year ago; and
  • You still live in the country that issued the certificate.

For country-specific guidelines on how to obtain acceptable police certificates, use the Document Finder above.

Anyone have ideas where I can get the link below translated into Mandarin?  The police are requesting a translated version/copy before they will provide a police certificate:

Thanks to SusieQQQ for providing the link!
