Hi All - I just have a question for those folks who have received your case number. We received ours on January 28th (via email)- everywhere I've read online is that you need to choose your agent with form DS-261... it didn't come up as an option on the portal. I was able to pay the fees (still processing).

My question is - did everyone fill out DS-261 right away, or does it appear after a certain amount of time, or is it now redundant?

Thank you!

They don't have that displayed because you are the agent unless you are filing with a third party or an lawyer, you do not file that.

Congratulations,

And also thank you for sharing your experience.

But, the scanned example seems vertical scan, which shows words horizontally as we normally read them on screen or printed papers (means top edge of the doc is on top).

Am I confused or wrong?

Exactly correct dear!

cAN SOMEONE HELP ME, i AM GOING TO BE USING A JOINT SPONSER, WHAT FORMS SHOULD I FILL OUT , AND WHICH SHOULD MY JOINT SPONSER FILL? DO WE BOTH FILL I-864 , DO I NEED TO FILL OUT I-864A FORM?

Is your sponsor a household member or not? If your sponsor is a household member you complete I-864 and your sponsor completes I-864A, if not you both complete I-864.

Who May Be Considered a Household Member for Purposes of Form I-864A?
For purposes of this contract, one or more of the following individuals may sign the Form I-864A as a household member if at least 18 years of age:
1. The intending immigrant, if the sponsor seeks to rely on an intending immigrant’s continuing income to establish the sponsor’s ability to support the intending immigrant’s spouse or children;
2. The spouse, parent, child, adult son or daughter, or sibling relative of the sponsor, if that relative has the same principal residence as the sponsor; or
3. Any other individual whom the sponsor has lawfully claimed as a dependent on the sponsor’s most recent Federal income tax return even if that person does not live at the same residence as the sponsor. If more than one individual agrees to help support the sponsored immigrant, each individual must sign a separate Form I-864A.

None of the above apply and:

  1. You do not meet the
    minimum income requirement
and are using a joint sponsor, and
  2. You are not using the income of other household members to qualify.

The sponsor and the joint sponsor must each complete Form I-864

Thank you again for the detailed response. I feel a lot better about online processing now. Yes, God please give us patience and strength through this process.

YW! I didn’t a lot of research on the financial documents, because the Jamaican Embassy is very strict on being financially capable of supporting your spouse in the U.S.
