Absolutely, I will give you an update as soon as we have received it!

Which chapels are you looking at? I think my favourite so far is the “Chapel of the flowers” or “The terrace gazebo” but interested to see which yours is as that sounds like exactly like the type of venue we like!

I’ve done some research into the Vegas marriage certificate timings and they do seem to be a lot faster, the officiants must register your marriage within 10 working days but some of the chapels that I’ve seen will fast track that part of the process for a fee. Some people reporting having their certificate within a couple of weeks which would be really helpful.

We looked at both of those and we chose the Terrace Gazebo! It's beautiful, Courtney found a photographer from "the knot" website or something?

Yeah a couple of weeks would be ideal, as from what I've seen we need the proper one and not the one we need for AOS

Oh, I’m so excited for you to be going in 2 weeks! Sounds like you have a well-considered plan - are you still planning on a Vegas wedding? Have a few friends that have got married there and it’s been amazing.

Due to a lengthy divorce (LA takes forever on EVERYTHING marriage-related it would appear), it took 1.5 years until we submitted our petition, so I’m used to waiting - but now it’s in (start of December), I’m anxiously date-watching!

I’m going to be in Valencia, which is very north - however, it’s right off the 5, so you can get to places pretty quickly (takes about 30 minutes to the valley, 40 minutes to central Hollywood, 40 minutes to DTLA) - and it’s very family-orientated, good schools etc.

Ha! I feel like I’ve just done a sales patter for Valencia - it just gets a bad rep for being too far away (which in miles it is) - but then when you go there, you realise how quick it is to get to, because you’re on the 5, rather than the 405!

Ideally would like to work in Burbank, as I lived there in 2017 and my fiancé works there (that’s how we met)...so I just have an affinity for the place 😍.

Where are you going to be?

Yep Vegas is pretty much all planned, we have our hotel booked but just need to book the venue 😊 We wanted to have fun with it and make it special still, even though we plan to have a bigger celebration with all our friends and family in a few years.

Valencia does sound fab! Ive heard of Burbank but not Valencia, I’m excited to get out adventuring and discover lots of new places.

We will be in Pasadena, there seems like there’s lots to do around and whilst I wait for my drivers licence there is a lot in walking distance from our apartments thankfully!

I’ve just replied to your message too...sorry I’ve been rubbish at replying! x

Awesome! Which hotel have you gone for?

Pasadena is nice - it borders on the valley, which is where Burbank is...and you’re near Highland Park, which has some AMAZING food options 😍.

No worries, imagine you’re pretty busy right now - I spend waaaay too much time on here, reading everything and trying to swot up on everything I need to do prior to the interview 🙃

We’ve gone for the signature at MGM and got a nice 1 bedroom balcony suite! We found a really good deal on them and decided with everything else we have to pay for we wouldn’t go crazy fancy in hotel choice but they still looked really good!

Ooh good to know, so excited to get exploring food options! Recommendations always welcome, I love all cuisines really.

Oh definitely with you on that, I found out so much random information just spending hours scrolling around. This site has been such a life saver for us though, I feel like I would have been so confused otherwise 😂

So, I don’t think being out of status for a short period should be too much of an issue - appreciate it will slow things down and will cost us more (due to not working and higher insurance fees), but it doesn’t sound like it would prevent me from getting the AOS...

Wow, that’s terrible.

If I were planning this again, I absolutely would plan the wedding for sooner after I arrive (rookie error, dictated by a few things out of my control). But it’s booked for when it’s booked - and we have a few weeks after that’ll still still be within the 90 days. Fortunately it’s all happening in California, which is where I will, and the OP does now live...and California is a sanctuary state, so I don’t believe this could happen there?

I’m at work currently, so have only managed to skim read this article - however, it appears to be referring specifically to people have arrested - who they then run checks on. It doesn’t seem to relate in any way to random stops of people who haven’t committed a felony - and my understanding is that if I’m arrested for commuting a crime prior to being an LPR (or maybe even a citizen), I’d face deportation for that anyway, regardless of whether I’m in AOS or not?

I appreciate that you obviously feel strongly about this, but I’m not certain that your references entirely relate to this scenario. So definitely appreciate your concern, but I don’t feel the need to panic just yet.

Committing, not commuting! (Auto correct) 🤦🏻‍♀️

I will be really interested if you can let us know how the Vegas wedding went and the timeline of getting the certificate?

My fianceé (USC) and I (beneficiary) are doing a Vegas wedding around late June/July all being well. We found a lovely outdoor rooftop gazebo venue as like you, we're not into the Elvis drive through pink cadilac scene ;)  So we have like 15-20 friends/family coming over for it and again very similar to you, in a few years have a reception back over in the UK for everyone else to attend.

I can't imagine Vegas being a place that'll struggle with churning out marriage certificates!

Hi Luke,

Just thought I’d provide you with an update on us getting our marriage certificate from Vegas!

We got married on Apr 13th, 2 weeks later we received a letter in the mail advising us that our marriage certificate was ready to be ordered. I ordered a couple of copies that same day.

A week later I got an email advising me the certificate had been returned to the county clerks office as “undeliverable” (we seem to have sporadic issues with our apartment not being found by the post man 😭) and so I replied to have them send it to my Mother-in-laws...it then arrived on Monday of this week and so AOS finally sent off yesterday 🎉🎉🎉

So all in all I’d say 3 weeks (I’m excluding our missed week from post issues) is a likely timescale from the day of your actual wedding to have it in hand ☺️

Hope you are well and everything is going smoothly with the move!

Thank you! Awww damn I was hoping Vegas would have them available much sooner for the transitioning people. I'm sorry to hear you had an issue with the postage but at least you're all filed now! 😁

The move is happening tomorrow! Currently in a hotel and my flight is in the morning!!

Well legally the officiant has 10 days to get your marriage registered so it may be worth asking if they can register it as soon as possible? I thought about doing it and then the excitement on the day took over and I completely forgot haha.

Amazing, you’ll be here soooo soon now! Wishing you a safe flight and the best reunion at the airport on the other side!

If you need any help at all with SSN, AOS etc please just let me know 😊

Arrests without convictions generally do not result in deportations. "Innocent until proven guilty" .

Unless of course someone has say, overstayed a visa.

I feel strongly about people ending up in jail for no good reason. I'd rather ICE jail cells were occupied by more deserving illegal aliens.

I don't know why you would feel panic, when the solution to your potential problem is obvious. Get married at a non-LA county office a few days before or after your ceremonial wedding and reception that is booked in LA county. Just ignore those pressuring to you break USA immigration laws. Your life, your choice.

Thank you so much. We're going to give the marriage venue a call at some point and see if this is possible for us.

Thank you again, I will likely pull you up on that shortly :P

WOW this thread is an eye-opener! I'm originally from the LA area, but now live in the Bay Area, and we were thinking about having the ceremony in Burbank for sentimental reasons. :) But the wait times for LA county are just... terrible. I guess San Jose is the way to go when the time is right for us. Lol, by the time we fix a date it will probably be flipped and San Jose will be 10-12 weeks and LA will be 4 weeks!

Congrats to all the happy couples!:star:
