I'm US Citizen by birth and immigration officer stamped my US passport on re-entry to U.S. with B1/B2 visa

Hey guys,

I'm a US Citizen by birth and recently returned from a 6 day vacation in Brazil to meet my fiancee's family and of course see her again. I got Brazil entry and exit stamps just fine, but my United States passport was also stamped with a United States B1/B2 visa stamp with an expiration date 6 months from now when I re-entered the US....um, why? Is this just a placeholder or something? Will this confuse immigration if I sent in my passport pages with this in it (for a K-1 visa application)?

Thanks!

This is a little strange considering you were entering with a US passport.  I did a quick search and did not find any similar situations, so perhaps it was a mistake.  You may consider contacting CBP to see why it was stamped.  As to the future visa application for your fiancée, I would not worry about this stamp, as you have Brazilian stamps, and boarding passes for evidence.

i am interested to see what others know.

Good Luck!

Upon review of my older passports, I noticed a couple of DHS Admitted stamps (the oval stamp) in them from some trips (not all of them).  However, none of them have anything written on the Class line.  Did your stamp specifically have B1/B2 written on the Class line?

I can not think of any reason whatsoever to have B visa stamp in US passport.  That officer must have been having a bad day.

Can you post a picture of your stamp?

Yep, very confusing...can US citizens even get US visas? Hopefully immigration will understand it was a mistake...

That is odd.  I have received the stamp before, but never anything On the class line.  You may want to contact CBP.

I personally wouldnt worry about it beyond letting the CBP at that location know their employees are more dumb than normal. (Or more asleep?)

You are special!!!   I would bet that only a very few Americans have B1/B2 visas in their US passports................I don't see it as a problem.......but it might be a great conversation piece......

Were you in the USC line? If that line was busy and the crowd controllers were sending USCs through the visitor lines, it’s possible that the CBP officer was acting on auto-pilot.

Timeline in brief:

Married: September 27, 2014

I-130 filed: February 5, 2016

NOA1: February 8, 2016 Nebraska

NOA2: July 21, 2016

Interview: December 6, 2016 London

POE: December 19, 2016 Las Vegas

N-400 filed: September 30, 2019

Interview: March 22, 2021 Seattle

Oath: March 22, 2021 COVID-style same-day oath

Now a US citizen!

This is probably exactly what happened as I have seen it many time in my travels, but not with a B1/B2 stamp. I'll have to dig thru my old passports, but I have a airline employee entry stamp in my one passport because they were crowded and sending some of us thru the Airline personnel line , and I got some weird stamp in my passport. Never caused me any issues but this was a few passports ago so I didn't have to send it with my K1. I don't even know if they stamp airline personnel passports anymore.

Here on a K1? Need married and a Certificate in hand within a few hours? I'm here to help. Come to Vegas and I'll marry you Vegas style!!   Visa Journey members are always FREE for my services. I know the costs involved in this whole game of immigration, and if I can save you some money I will!
