So I'm looking to make the move in March from the UK to the US.

I have a guitar that I'd like to ship with UPS that's worth about £2000

Now, taking it on the plane is not an option. I'm already taking 2 guitars with me that hold more sentimental value (I have already been in contact with the airline)

So what's the laws regarding moving with 'high value assets'

Looking online seems i need to complete Form 3299

https://help.cbp.gov/app/answers/detail/a_id/354/~/moving-to-the-u.s.---duty-free-entry-of-unaccompanied-goods%2C-firearms%2C-gift

But does that mean I need to physically take them to POE? My other 2 guitars are worth about £1500 & £3000 so would I need to take form 3299 with me?

So confused. I can't mark the one i ship as a $100 gift as 1. its not a gift and 2. i need to insure it.

As you are entering as a new immigrant you can ship unaccompanied personal effects and household goods without having to pay import duties. The form you have found is the declaration required. You must provide this to your shipper, and it will accompany your goods. Total value is not limited. If you bring any things with you , you do not need the form.

You must arrive into the US before your unaccompanied goods .

Aw Excellent. So, just file the form, put it in a bag and attach the bag to the box?

Happy days, thanks

You will need to get specific instructions from your shipper about where the form should be placed

You do not have to bring everything accompanied on your POE trip. If you would feel better bringing each on the plane, you still get the duty free Immigrant entry at subsequent entries. I believe you have five years.
