Do you guys use your NOA2 date or your receipt date on the physical NOA2 to determine how many days it’s been?

Go go fill it out on your timeline.   You'll see a little question mark icon, which will take you to a sample NOA2 with a circle around which date you should use.

oh, here it is.........     noa-date.jpg

NOA Jan 18.   Not arrived as of yesterday.   Called USCIS......was told they sent is on Feb 6.      You're close.   The more important question for us......will we make the Feb 19th NVC mailing to the embassies.    I'm saying we will, which means your embassy will have the case by Feb 25.    😁     The power of positive thinking.

That Feb 19 date is what I'm seriously hoping for.  The embassy in Canada has been taking so long that I'm likely looking at soonest early May for an interview date if I make that NVC shipment.  Fingers crossed for both of us!

Yep, I heard that.   Same situation in Bangkok...........the latest numbers look like 30+ days for the interview.

OK, I know the DS-160 is used for many types of visas besides K-1, but I STILL find that little "Help" note perplexing under the Applicant Relatives section.    Since when is a fiance' / fiancee' considered a relative?    My fiancee' asked about this..........I initially answered "no, we're not related until married", until I saw the goofy "help" notation.

 The whole DS-160 is a joke. From filling it outline and not being able to save or print confirmation to timing out. Oy Vey! Then you have to contend with the stupid questions which make no sense in some cases.

I'll list some of the questions and the suggested way to handle for your edification and others so bare with me. These are the most common along with the one you quoted.

Q 10 -

If you have processed any other applications through USCIS online (K1 you can't do, they mean any other petition for another person), then you would put your account number there.

Most processing their first petition would not have a USCIS online account number.

Part 1 Question 10 is not your WAC# or your NVC case #. You would leave it blank.

Q 26 - The key word is FILED. Not approved or completed. So has anyone ever FILED for you besides your current petitioner (in this case,  you = beneficiary). If so YES, if not NO. Most answer it NO as they have never had a case FILED for them prior to their current petitioner.

How to prove you are still a couple for the interview and still in a relationship.

I've noticed that this has been a hot topic of late, so I would like to go ahead and answer it. First, if you are from any of these country's; residency in the “State Sponsors of Terrorism” (T-7) list: Cuba, Iran, Iraq, Libya, North Korea, Sudan, Syria; or from the “List of 26”: Afghanistan, Bahrain, Djibouti, Egypt, Eritrea, Indonesia, Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Libya, Malaysia, Morocco, Oman, Pakistan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, Tunisia, Turkey, UAE, Yemen then your approach will be different then all the other embassies that are not mention. You have to know your petitioner like the back of your hand.

You need to make an iron clad case that you have a mutual couple relationship and not committing fraud. The CO works from you are the "Bad Guy" and you work from "I am the Good Guy and here is why" mentality. So, gathering all the document asked for in the P3 is a requirement. Follow the directions exactly as they have been published in the P3 letter. Compile a dossier on your relationship. Keep it moderate but use the best evidence. So what is it that I need for the "dossier"?

1. Pictures. Not 1,000 but 12-18 (printed 4 up on a page, you can cut and paste into a word doc nicely). The strongest evidence with pictures is the two of you together with friends, at recognizable landmarks and with family especially with parents. Do not show any pictures of gatherings that can look like a wedding ceremony. Yes, some have and have been denied at the interview.

2. Print off only one page of chat logs 2-3 per month. No you don't need 2,500 pages of chat logs.

3. Have your petitioner send you a copy of the I-129f (through email and you can review on a computer or you can print - be sure to us a black marker and strike out his SSN and study it to know most things that may be asked. (How many brothers and sisters, where does he work, has he been in trouble with the law before, how long has he worked for his company, what is his position etc.)

You are going to be in front of the CO for about 5 min. They are good at their job so be truthful, look them in the eye when answering their questions, don't go into a great deal of information just straight to the point. Smile and relax and be confident about your relationship. 99% of the people who go before the CO get approved and you are going to be a part of that 99% and not the 1%.

You should always be honest with the consular officer, and answer any questions posed to the best of your ability.  We understand that many people have relatives in the United States but intend only a short visit, or have immigrant visa petitions on file but do not plan to immigrate at this time.  Having family in the U.S. or having an immigrant visa petition on file does not automatically disqualify you from getting a visa.  Failure to disclose these facts, many of which are already known to the interviewing officer can irreparably damage an applicant's credibility with the consular officer and result in a denial.  When an interviewing officer uncovers any attempt to conceal or misrepresent facts, the application will be denied and the applicant may, in certain cases, be found permanently ineligible to enter the United States.

When an interviewing officer uncovers any questionable documents or attempts to misrepresent facts, the application will be denied and the applicant may, in certain cases, be ruled permanently ineligible to enter the United States.

So be honest. If you don't know the answer express that you don't know.

Good luck.

Hi!.. I have a few questions!

The NVC shipped our case to the ambassy in San José, Costa Rica on tuesday and it was delivered today according to the DHL tracker.

My questions are how long does it take for embassies to process the package and make the shipping of the packet 3? Why not ask in the Costa Rico thread. Link is below.

Also, how common is for embassies to contact you to your phone number?.. Rarely.

The question is because I recently lost my phone and I couldn't get my old phone number back (the one that I put on the I-129F) and I don't know if that would be a problem if the embassy or the company in charge of the shipping of my package try to contact me. Do you have a new phone. Does it have the same phone number. If different then have the beneficiary change it at the interview. Be sure to list it on any documents that require a phone number that you use the phone number you'll be using going forward.

Your knowledge will be of much help!

Hey guys. I have an NOA2 of January 28th. I emailed the embassy in Tegucigalpa Honduras where my fiancé will interview. They said his police certificates do not need to be translated, but USCIS said that they will need to be translated. Any thoughts or advice?

Here is a place for you to read embassy reviews. Chalked full of information.

https://www.visajourney.com/reviews/index.php?trim=no&cty=&cnty=Honduras&page=1&dfilter=5&topic

The P3 letter will have what is needed and will specify if the documents need to be translated. A rule of thumb when in doubt, if the document is in a language other then English or your home country's language then you should have it translated. If it is in the other two languages no need.

Also, I usually have a P3 from most country's and Honduras I do not have. When you get a copy can you PM me here on VJ and give me a copy so that I can use it for others who will come behind you. Thanks.

If you select your flag in your profile from the left column you'll land on your country's profile page. Here there are many tools from which you can select that will answer many of your questions.

Select Consulate information to get an idea of what is required for your Embassy interview.

Select Consulate Reviews to learn about the experiences of others who had their interview at your Embassy.

Select Visa Timelines to follow others from your country who also are applying. A good way to establish a "buddy system" to help with questions.

Select K-1 Timelines when you scroll down about 50% of the page and on the left side, you will see this option. This will show you the progress of 12 other timelines that are close to you from your country. If you scroll down a little further you will see a "spreadsheet" showing valuable information. Select to follow those 12 and get updates whenever their files are updated. Gives you a good idea where you are in comparison to others.

Select Immigration Timelines at the top from the blue ribbon that stretches across the page. Here you can follow, much like the K-1 timeline tip I gave above but now you are looking at those from other countries that are close to your timeline.

I am the beneficiary, sorry I didn't detail that!

No, there is no way to get my phone number back... What concerns me is that the embassy would give the shipping company my phone number to contact me regarding my packet 3 (addresses in Costa Rica are not an easy thing) and they would not be able to take a hold of me... I will ask more information on the Costa Rica thread.. Thank you.

HA!!    Case in point..............have not been able to log onto the application for an hour.   Using IE, cleared cache, rebooted the computer..........zip!   Cannot get in.

also had another problem where the state and zip code for the petitioner just dropped off the application.   I enter it, and everytime I go back to that page it's gone.  I just fill it in, and it lets me go to the next page.   Wrote to the embassy about it........they as long as it lets me go to the next page, to just include a note about the information with my packet 3 submission.   It also dropped off the applicant educational information.   Started a new application, saved it to the computer, and now it been showing up.

So gotta agree with the "is a joke" comment.   Good point about not being able to print it out either.

Greenbaum, can I hit you up once again on this DS-160?   Under Travel Information, the DS-160 asks specifically for the USCIS receipt number.......see below.    Is this where we have the option to put either NVC case number or USCIS receipt number?   I did not see where the NVC case number is specifically requested on the entire application.
