Savanna, did you get the same situation as Mark&Jean where they got two case numbers showing up on CEAC while they claimed no children??

No, just my one case number

Also, your file is sent electronically along with your paper file for the interview. BOTH have to be "check in" before the record is set to "ready".

Based on what we are seeing today, apparently both the paper and electronic copies do not have to be checked in.........would you agree?    Maybe they're going hyper-20th Century on us, and changing to "Ready" status with the electronic copy only??    Wonder if that could be a precursor to eliminating the paper copy altogether.

I guarantee that the CO that did our interview did not see our file beforehand. We went to the windows randomly based on standing in line. R. presented her DS-160 confirmation page and then an assistant brought the CO our paper file. He just asked questions from what the prescreener put on her form. Other consulates may have more time to review the file beforehand but the pace in Manila is frenetic....I'm sure an additional review is done after the interview.....

You have a k-2...a child?

Let's say for argument sake, that the CO did read over the file (I'm not advocating that they reviewed it in front of the beneficiary at the interview) and didn't find any "red flags" coupled with the "new information" from the screener. Wouldn't that seem plausible? Someone (CO) I would think is tasked with a review of the file, as the CO is the "last person" with any authority to approved the visa and wouldn't put their name on the "file" without reviewing it? There is a review after the interview but that would be the visa producing team. If the CO says your approved and doesn't issue a 221(g) I would imagine it's a done deal. It's RARE that a "approved" visa is removed after the interview if an RFE was never prescribed from the interview.

Just my thoughts. Yours?

Depends on the CO. Some will allow both to stand and others will recognize that you were there but ask that you have a seat in the waiting area. I went with my wife and was both recognized and thank then asked to have a seat. But, it could have been that three were being interview and I would be the fourth and that may have been too many. But others have been able to stand with their fiancé. Other embassy do not allow but others do.

There were two male partners that were asked to leave the interview area because they were either too active during the interview or the CO wanted to discuss "legal" issues. I was standing in line with R. 6 feet away from them.

Nice !!!    In Thailand, they make it real clear that the petitioner is NOT invited.

This all is a guessing game; what is the wizard doing behind the curtain. At one time in the Philippines (USEM) once you had your case number you could do everything in one week to include medical, CFO and interview. So once NVC handed out the case number things moved pretty fast if the beneficiary want it to. So what happened from time to time they were too early for the interview because the record either wasn't set to "ready" condition or it had done so close to the interview date. Which I can only guess didn't allow them to do their interview preparation. So the interview was canceled by the embassy and it had to be rescheduled. Now USEM requires the letter from NVC before the medical can be completed. So that slowed the process down to a normal pace that most embassies experience.

The impression I got is that they were just a little bit overwhelmed by the sheer number of interviews...But, there were some serious questioning. Especially if the Petitioner had any history of legal problems....

When I sat out my fiancé's interview I was close enough to a window where I could follow along with the applicant's (with a K-2 with her) interview. The CO started with simple questions and about the third question it was like the CO had just caught a 300lb tuna and was starting to bring it in. The questions now were about the women and the relationship to the K2. Well this progressed for about 5 min whereupon the CO had uncovered that the "girl" was the Ate to this K-2 (boy) and that was passing the boy off as her own and that she was the mother. CO was not having anything to do with that lie. CO denied the visa and band her and the K-2 from receiving any future visa's. Not a good day for the Ate or the Mother. These CO's are well trained in interviewing. That day convinced me of that.

Well this is the wizard behind the curtain. Don't know which button they are pushing. It would be a guess either way to what happens and if you book to close you could get caught. That's why some embassies are sending P3 letters out and you have to return all your documents electronically to them before they open up the interview schedule or in some cases assign you an interview date. Some require the DS-160 be complete and a copy of the confirmation page sent to them before they open up the scheduling. That's why it's difficult for me to advise people because I just don't have the time or patience to answer each question other than "please use your P3 letter and find your sub-forum on VJ" response. BUT, people here want to be spoon fed so they do neither and this causes a delay and then they start complaining here in the thread. Sorry I digressed.
