Hey all,

when submitting W2s for affidavit of support, do the w2 have to be originals or will copies be good enough?

Thanks

Copies should be fine. I know for alot of people nowadays they are electronic, so any printed w2 is a "copy" per se.

Hi everyone,

I have been busy therefore have not been able to follow as much, this may have been answered already but my fiance has his interview coming up on 3/19 and I am working on the affidavit of support, does anyone know if this can be electronically signed or should I mail it to him with my written signature? They also are asking for my birth certificate , I am worried about sending my original birth certificate I don't want to lose it. Do you think a copy would suffice? Thanks.

Ink Signature No Longer Required on Affidavits of Support (12/28/2016)

Last Updated: December 28, 2016

As part of our ongoing efforts to be responsive to customer needs in immigrant visa processing, the Department of State is pleased to announce that original or “wet ink” signatures are no longer required on submitted Forms I-864, Affidavit of Support. This also applies to the I-864A, I-864W, and I-864EZ.

Starting January 1, 2017, the National Visa Center (NVC) will accept photocopies and scanned versions of signed Forms I-864 and associated documents. Please note that the form must still be signed; typed names and electronic signatures will not be accepted. NVC will only ask petitioners to submit an amended Form I-864 to NVC if the financial sponsor’s name and personal information are missing; there is no signature at all; or if there are missing pages.

If you received a “checklist” letter prior to January 1, 2017, asking you to submit a corrected Form I-864, please follow the instructions on that letter. If the only item on your checklist letter is a request for an original (in ink) signature, please contact NVC at 1-603-334-0700. A request from NVC for an original signature looks like this:

[ x ] In Part 8. Sponsor's Contract, please correct the following...
        [ x ] Item 6.a.
You must sign the form and your signature must be
                                original (in ink).

This improvement will simplify the submission of financial evidence in support of a visa application, and decrease the rate of visas refused only because the required documents were not available at the time of the visa interview.

RoC sent 10/30/21

NOA 11/16/21

Check Cashed 11/18/21

Biometrics Waived 01/19/2022

I’m a bit confused as to timing on the next part.  I have NVC case number and invoice number. Does that mean I can go ahead with the 6 NVC steps and submit our DS-160’s now? Or do I have to wait for something from Montreal?

Yes, I agree and observe the same from your explanation above. Middle Eastern countries are in the cross hairs and do take much longer to adjudicate.

Unfortunately there's still MORE waiting to do.

Your case has to be sent to Montreal Consulate and then once they process it, they will send you a letter of instructions in the mail (Packet 3). It's only after you receive this packet - then you're able to submit DS160 and other things they ask for.

You won't be able to book the medical and interview until you receive Packet 4.

(I know, it's insane how long this waiting is!)

Here's another forum you can join, for Canadians 😊. You can ask more questions there about the process in regards to Montreal Consulate

@F + S has given you some good information on the process for Montreal. Unfortunately, Montreal are control freaks and what to know when every step to be taken by the beneficiary is controlled by them. I am sure at one time this process that they were using before just got out of hand. Here is some additional information.

You can't hurry it along at all. You have to wait for P3 which takes 2-4 weeks from Ready. Comply with what they ask for in P3 (the actual one they send you) by sending them a copy of the signed P3 checklist, your DS-160 confirmation and your Passport Bio. Then they send you P4. Then they tell you to register to schedule and you'll wait some more for interviews to open up, which only happens once a month during the last week of the month for two months ahead UNLESS you are lucky and you scoop up a cancellation. Get your medical appointment first so you can schedule the interview shortly afterwards.

Packet 3: https://ca.usembassy.gov/wp-content/uploads/sites/27/2016/07/Packet3Instructions-K1.pdf  And Packet 4 for reference also: https://ca.usembassy.gov/wp-content/uploads/sites/27/2016/03/Packet4-MTL.pdf

For all things dealing with the US Consulate in Canada head on over to the sub-forum for Canada where they will answer your questions for the processing of your visa from their personal experience. Link:

Birth Certificate and Police Certificate information

Here is some additional information. As was stated in the Canadian sub-forum there is an "emergency order" application in Ontario. You need the birth cert that is CERTIFIED COPY OF BIRTH REGISTRATION that has the parents name. You don't want the "parental cert" that is a wallet sized one with parents names but no place of birth, doctors who attended birth etc. The parental one is for parents travelling with kids to prove custody in an easy to use/travel with format. Hope this clears up your question. CALL the registrar and tell them you need to do an emergency application otherwise you will be waiting 15+ weeks. Absolutely the long form is a required LIVE document needed at the interview or you'll get rejected.  I hope this info is helpful and best of luck.

In case you're doing the medical in Vancouver: Dr. Cheema requires you to schedule the interview first in order to book the medical.

Please go over to this thread and ask questions about the procedure for China. They will know what is and what isn't needed for the interview. China is very hands on for their Visa process. What is OK for others may not necessarily be OK for China.

This pertains to the I-864 which is the AOS document you use for the AOS step after marriage and NOT for the interview where the I-134 is required. There are still embassies that require a "wet" signature for the I-134.
