If your passport is not expired, just use that. Don't make it more complicated by showing an expired green card and extension letter.

As far as ID for travel, use your unexpired foreign passport. As an LPR, you are required to have proof of status on you at all times, so bring the expired GC and extension letter too.

No but by law LPR are required to keep proof of their status on their person.

Domestic travel with a passport is fine as many have said.  To all those talking about a DL or State ID, neither of those prove immigration status, so LPRs are required to keep documents with them.  Additionally, CBP does sometimes hang out at TSA checkpoints.  Here is a good thread that shows what do do in that situation.

even if you dont drive you should still have a valid state ID

i 485, 130, EAD and AP

04/09/2019    NOA1 received/check cashed i 485 and 130 (direct adjustment)

11/7/2019      Interview- Norfolk

11/10/2019    APPROVED (notification rec'd 11/10, approval dated 11/8)

DONE FOR TWO YEARS!!! ;)

 

Filed everything ourselves with no RFE's or delays.

 

CR1 for Child under 21 (20 at time of filing)- Filed by LPR Spouse for his son

4/4/20     Mailed packet

4/12/20   NOA1 rec'd

10/14/21 (havent heard anything... when do i start to get worried?)

9/15/22 APPROVED! Now to wait for NVC and interview....

You can do whatever you want, but the law says to have the physical card, not a copy, on you.
