Hi all,

I have a few question's that are concerning me right now

The first question and the most important is how long on average do you wait before you can start working??

I was looking at timelines and it seem's to suggest that most people wait around seven to nine months for

AOS to be approved.

I think and i hope that you can work when you get your EAD which seem's to be withing the 3 month's

mark.

My other question is i am getting the varicella shot as i have been told it is required. I have been told that

you need to get two shots and the second one need's to be a month after the first one, how did people

applying for a AOS (k1) go about doing that??

Your help would be gratefully received

Liam

EAD = Employment Authorization Document so yes, you can work with EAD.

Varicella = chicken pox which you may have had as a child. You should not be required to get a vaccination for a disease that you already have immunity against. My husband did not have to get this shot.

You have to get a vaccination supplement from a civil surgeon here anyway, you will probably find one who does not require you to get the varicella shot if you had chicken pox as a child.

So is my understanding correct that you don't need to have proof of your shots untill you go to your AOS interview??

And once you receive your EAD this entitle's you to work??

Thanks liam

You need to send in the vaccination supplement with your AOS packet. Can't wait until the interview.

Yes, EAD gives you authorization to work, hence the name.

You have to visit a civil surgeon, they have the vax supplement form and they have to complete it for you. You don't just send in the records to USCIS yourself.

A good civil surgeon will be able to confirm the records for you with no trouble at all. :) Shop around, though; sometimes the costs vary wildly, from $20 to $200. Don't get dinged if you don't have to! USCIS has the information sort of hidden away on their site.

You will want to send in all the relevant details with your AOS package. You can delay the I-693, but it's not recommended as you could be RFEd.

25 August 2005 - AOS touched.
29 August 2005 - AP, EAD, I-485 touched.
