Yep. I knew it had to be 90 days prior to GC expiration, but like TheKingmaker said, I got a little too excited and sent it thinking it would arrive the day of the window. I should have waited to send it on the day the window actually opened

My case was received at the Arizona Lockbox location on Jan 10th, but I hadn't received a NOA yet, so I called on February 6th. They started a case for me, and today (Feb 15) I finally received an email that they're going to "resend" the NOA. Obviously they didn't send it the first time. But they say they did and now they are "resending" it. The bright side is that the email gave me my Receipt number, which I did not have to look my case up online due to never having received a receipt!

JUST GOT MY NOA IN THE MAIL!

Sequence of events:

Jan 8th - Mail in application

Jan 10th - Arizona receives my application

February 6th - I still had nothing in the mail, no acknowledgement, so I called USCIS. They put in a case to resend the notice.

February 15 - Received email that they would resend my NOA (I don't believe they actually mailed it the first time)

February 23rd - Received the NOA in the mail

March 23rd - my green card expires

My NOA says it's an 18 month extension, so I guess they're not messing around with 12 month ones anymore. I'll probably be applying for citizenship before I heard back on this.

Your quite lucky they let you keep the 2yr GC! Once you get your NOA1 letter, you will get the 18 month extension since you also have your 2yr GC

They are not supposed to take your green card from you. My coworker had this happen to him at the Boise USCIS office, then he went to Canada, and when he came back the US border officers were shocked and appalled that anyone in a USCIS office would take his green card. The rules are clear - once you're in this part of the process, your new "green card" is your expired green card + your NOA. Now I'm kind of too afraid to go to the USCIS office in Boise to get the infopass because they don't seem to understand that.

My earlier post was in the context of I-551 passport stamp. Either of the following can be used as proof of LPR status (for overseas travel, work authorization, DL renewal):

  • expired 2 yr conditional GC  + NOA1 (extension) letter   OR
  • I-551 stamp on passport

A lot of Dec/Jan Filers (including myself) have not received their NOA1 letters and had to get the I-551 stamp for proof of LPR status.  In most cases, when USCIS provided the I-551 stamp, they took away their 2yr conditional GC. Similar to what happened to your coworker.

Informed Delivery shows I have a letter from USCIS, which I’m guessing is the biometrics appointment letter.  Once I get that done and over with, I can breathe easy til next January when I submit the N400.

My husband woke me up (at 2:30am) the other night bc he found an article in the local paper that a USCIS Naturalization ceremony was being held this month literally right next door to where we live.  Said a small amount of people will take the oath (approx 50).  HE was excited bc he thinks I’ll have it approved and an oath ceremony before November 2020 so we can vote together.  He is mistaken, I think, but I’ll let him stay excited for now.

Just a quick question guys, I'm just wondering for biometrics, would it be for husband and wife or just the petitioner?

ROC Timeline:

01/28/2018 - Sent I-175 Packet to Dallas Lockbox

02/01/2019 - Case was received
