Hey, I'm in the same boat, except I cannot even submit "outside normal processing time" request. My extension letter expires in September, and I can only submit the request AFTER that because the office extended their processing times just recently :( What is your office for I-751? Wishing you luck with all that!

It was sent to the Vermont service center, which is where I assume it physically still is, but will be adjudicated locally in Buffalo, NY.

You should be able to call for an infopass appointment to get a stamp in your passport.  It’s maddening that they will leave us without any tangible proof of legal status.

Thank you for the info.

How early can I call to get an infopass? My 18month extension expired early Oct.

They keep bouncing back and forth with this. I suggest calling about 30 days before it expires. They will let you know if it's too soon. I requested my appointment a week before my letter expired and got an appointment for the next day but that was during the heights of COVID and offices were closed at the time.

After submitting case for outside processing time, this is what USCIS responded to me

The status of this service request is:

Recently, you contacted us about the status of your Form I-751, Petition to Remove Conditions on Residence, filed on January 15, 2019.  On January 12, 2020, you also filed a Form N-400, Application for Naturalization.  Our records indicate that your Form I-751 and Form N-400 are currently pending and will be adjudicated at the same time.

This is maddening! I suspect this is what will happen to me, as well, meaning that I will be effectively without any legal status for approx. 9 months (between the extension letter expiration and N-400 estimated completion time). I wonder though: why the heck do we pay for BOTH I-751 and N-400 if one of them is not even granted to us???

Exactly! I called them last week and they said they only set up emergency appointments. Ugh.

Vermont has slightly shorter processing times, but I suspect both your cases (I-751 and N-400) will be combined. So there's really no telling how much longer we'll be without any status :(

Do you have a driver's license? Does it expire the same date as your extension letter? That might be considered an emergency.

Did you call to request a stamp or another extension letter? I keep calling but they are adamant that it's for emergencies only and I have to provide documentation. But then I went on Reddit, and somebody was in a similar situation (extension letter expiring soon), and they have an attorney who says USCIS MUST send you another extension letter if they're not done processing your case.

Lawyer is clearly useless sadly. USCIS will not send a new letter because the wording of the letter does not change. It still says 18 months from the date in the green card so a new letter would expire at the same time as the old one, hence useless.

I got an appointment for a stamp. There's currently no new extension letter that would be useful. They only give the stamp for emergencies. What emergency do you? Your legal status does not expire when the letter expires. You are still a legal resident while your case is still being processed so if you have no real emergency you don't need a letter it stamp. They are trying to make sure people who need evidence for work, travel etc are able to get it because otherwise there's no need to get anything.

So I have called USCIS call centre many times. Most recent conversation happened today. I called to ask for stamp like all of us in the same boat of expiring extension letters. I got the same answer of emergency requirements. During my conversation the agent told me that I’m in the queue for N400-interview. I have submitted my N-400 last year in November and completed Bio already. My I-751 is pending since December 2018. Now the agent stated that it will be interview only for N-400, when my Congressman told me that it will be a combo interview as per my last conversation with congressman staff two months ago (They stopped responding after that). My case was transferred to national benefits centre week after I filled for N-400 also. What you think may happen? Combo interview or N-400 only? Is there any way we can request a combo interview?

My wife's I-751 was also transferred to the National Benefits Center about a week after filing her N-400. When she had her N-400 interview in July, the I-751 was not mentioned, but changed to approved online the next day.

Hi, thank you for your hello earlier, may I ask if they let you go with her in for the interview part. As you have mentioned that it was only N-400 interview, given that USCIS enforcing social distance policies. I read a post on USCIS announcement board that they won’t let anyone in with as as before.

No, I was not allowed in. I had to wait outside the building. Her oath ceremony is tomorrow morning, and I assume I will have to wait outside for that also.

So they do not consider losing your driving license and/or your job, an emergency?
