When to file through Vermont?

Hello all. I am a UK citizen and recently got engaged to a USC. Ideally I would like to move out there around January 2008 and don't envisage any problems with the visa (no criminal record etc). I have a holiday booked with my fiance in the US for 10 days in September so I don't want the visa before then. We will be filing through Vermont and wondered if anyone could advise on when would be a good time to file the I-129F in order to get an interview any time between the middle of October 2007 and January 2008? I appreciate that this is not an exact science and I know that it's impossible to be precise but a rough idea would be ideal.

Thanks in advance.

At a quick glance, it looks like it's around 3 months from NOA1 to Interview. If you for sure don't want the visa before your trip, wait until July or August to apply. If you don't want to move until January of next year, wait until after your vacation. You have

This doesn't mean you'll be put through in 3 months...it could take longer due to name checks or if they get swamped with applications all of a sudden.

Keep in mind that the visa is valid for 6 months after issuance, so you can move here any time in that 6 months. In the meantime, it might not hurt to start gathering evidence and filling in forms. If you're not going to file until after your vacation, save evidence from that to show you traveled together.

Also, keep in mind peope like myself. Uk citizen, filed through vermont but it took 5 months from start to finish.

As said above, the visa (once issued) is valid for 6 months and you have 90 days once you enter the US to marry.

Good luck!

Thanks everyone. After looking at the timelines link and reading your advice we're going to file in mid-July. That way I can visit in September because there's no chance I'll have the visa before then. If we file mid-July I'm hoping to have the interview somewhere around the end of October or beginning of November.

Also you can visit after you file and before the visa is issued, so dont feel too limited by that. By the way, I love your screen name :)

Thank you, it's one of the many nicknames my fiance has for me.

How long could I delay sending back the packet 3 information for? I've had a look through the guides but I can't find anything telling me how long I can hold it up for - perhaps I'm not looking in the right place. I'm now beginning to think that it may be a good idea to file sooner rather than later so that if we get an RFE, or anything else causes a delay, at least that will happen when we're not really too bothered about the speed that things are going.

Thanks to everyone for their advice so far.
