Am I depressed again, or just bored and lonely?

Just after your opinions. Im really not sure. Ive suffered from depression before a few years back, and this doesn't feel quite the same as that. Im not sure then whether its mild depression or just, not sure how to put this..that Im bored with my life. lonely and basically dont enjoy my own company

When im out with my mates etc Im fine, im outgoing and I always have a laugh and am in a good mood. However as soon as I am on my own I feel terrible, really low, un-motivated and to be honest I just want to go to bed early every night until its a day when im doing something with someone.

I know I am probably my own worst enemy, i keep telling myself to find new hobbies, go to the gym and make new friends etc, but whilst there are some genuine reasons this isnt always an option (moneys tight, dont have a car etc)i know lack of motivation is one of the key reasons I dont.

Ive got a good big circle of friends ive known for years, but most of them are settled down now and only go out once a week, and they dont "have people round to the house" as it were. I share a house with one of my friends, but when he is in he just wants to sit and watch TV, which if Im fair, with the exception of a handful of shows, i find it really hard to just sit and watch tv all night as I dont have the attention span to watch it for the sake of it.

Ive tried dating and chat sites which have come to nothing.

I feel like this pretty much every day that im not out or doing something with friends. We tend to go out on thursdays and weekends, so I almost feel like im wishing my life away until those days.

Im really not sure how I should tackle this, but Im not happy about it.

Does or has anyone else experienced a spell in their lives like this? What did you do about it?

A great marriage is not when the "perfect couple" comes together.

It is when an imperfect couple learns to enjoy their differences.

Yeah, I think you're just bored too. You've got to just find things that you enjoy doing by yourself. If it's not watching TV, then try reading, or crossword puzzles, anything that you enjoy.

If you can't find *any* activity that you enjoy doing by yourself, then maybe you have something to worry about. It just sounds to me though that you haven't done enough exploration.

I feel depressed and lonely too if I'm by myself sitting on the couch doing absolutely nothing!

my sister jen is right..need to get it checked out..sound like.......

Dysthymia (pronunciation in IPA: [dɪsˈθaɪmɪə] or [dɪsˈθɪmɪə] (chiefly British)) or dysthymic disorder is a form of the mood disorder of depression characterized by a lack of enjoyment/pleasure in life that continues for at least two years. It differs from major depression in the severity of the symptoms. Dysthymia can, though it does not always, prevent a person from functioning or affect sleep patterns and daily activities.

Dysthymia may seem a paradoxical disorder in that sufferers exhibit fairly mild symptoms on a day-to-day basis; however, over a lifetime it can have severe effects, such as high rates of suicide, work impairment, and social isolation. The symptoms of patients with dysthymic disorder are not as severe as those associated with major depression, but the duration of these symptoms is much longer. When a major depressive episode occurs on top of dysthymia, clinicians may refer to the resultant condition as double depression.

Your lonely and depressed. its understandable.

I went thru this same thing after a 5 yr relationship ended. When my daughter was awake and my sister was around or i was out with my friends i was FINE. as soon as i was alone i was a mess.

it does pass. It takes time, you need to find something productive to do. puzzles are good, word crosses, PS2, computer games. hotornot.com is a good site for making the time go by and getting a good laugh :D

I'd also go with boredom, but after going through what you had, you probably really are just lonely.

One of my friends goes through this a lot. She is single, while most of us in the group of longtime friends are married now. Of course we always hang out with her and my sister (who is also single), and never try to make them feel left out. But still, I do not hang out as much as I used to since I am married now. And they feel stuck sometimes, with no love prospects around, and they feel loneliness. It's the feeling of every day is just a routine, then you go back to sleep to start it all over again, and it's not much fun. It's hard for them because they aren't married yet and don't even have boyfriends. They are tired of being alone. There seems to be a lack of good guys around here or something. It's crazy. I found mine on the other side of the world.

I think maybe you are still healing from everything that happened. (I have read your threads, even if I don't always respond!)

You have to find something to snap yourself out of it. Like others said, a new hobby or something.

Hope it gets better for you!

I knew you'd weigh in here, brother Dean.. no harm in getting checked out medically. No offense to David or anyone else posting here, but I wouldn't rely on strangers here to diagnose you. There's family history and lots of other factors to consider.

Try and find some outlets...what do you enjoy? In the mean time, go to a doctor and seek medical advice....I was depressed and having panic attacks....and it was affecting my life, so I went to my doctor and told her...she gave me some zoloft (30days) and literally after a week......all my problems were gone.....and I didn't take it after that, I just needed something to get me out of a rut I was in......don't let depression take control of your life.....enjoy life and all that it has to offer :)

To Blessed to be stressed:) I realize that all things have a purpose and a time.....have faith and the Lord Almighty will provide... when the time is right, he NEVER fails!

Dont go right out and ask for zoloft tho when you see the dr. it works on some but not on all. Its also not to be used as a quick fix for any kind of depression. (btw, being on any anti depressant and then going off it can cause worse side affects than noted on the perscription)

i took zoloft too, and it takes 30 days for it to effect your system, but before that, you can go thru horrible side affects. including suicidal thoughts, worse depression, anger, and so on. Deffinatly if you have severe depression and you stated you already have a history of depression zoloft isnt the way to go. I too am a manic depressant, the only think that worked on me was lithium, unfortunatly bc im on tramadol 24/7 for the rest of my life i cant take any antidepressants.

i do agree tho, a dr would be the right thing to go see. it wouldnt help to talk to someone. :) good luck to you and i hope you feel better.
