It's been exactly 5 weeks since my fiancé has had his interview with the US embassy in Ghana. We were approved and the CO said my fiancé should get email confirming his visa pick up within 2 weeks at DHL. The ceac tracker says issed on November 30, he has went to DHL and the embassy and they can't tell us nothing. Im just so confused about all this and don't know what else to do.

All you can do is to contact the consulate and/or the DHL......congratulations on the visa being issued!!!!!

In summary, it took 13 months for approval of the CR-1.  It took 44 months for approval of the I-751.  It took 4 months for approval of the N-400.   It took 172 days from N-400 application to Oath Ceremony.   It took 6 weeks for Passport, then 7 additional weeks for return of wife's Naturalization Certificate..

The problem is they won't let you in the building  without an appointment and don't respond to emails. If Visa has been issued then what is the hold up? This is beginning to look like a nightmare. Is there anyone here who personally knows someone that works at the embassy who can give us an insight as to why it is taking this long to receive passports back after the ceac status shows issued? Or is the status incorrect? I'm also confused.

Everytyime I call the embassy they say to wait til DHL emails us for pick up and every time my fiancé goes to DHL which has been 3 times they say that they haven't recieved no passports. I really doubt that the ceac tracker is incorrect they are just lollygaging within the embassy.

I have a flight scheduled for Monday December 24th because my fiancee was told to pickup passport in 5 working days and it is 15 working days now. Ceac status says visa issued on December 6. Interview November 30th.They have no idea what the stupid lies the CO tell people after approval does to our lives. Now i have to pay more than $700 to change flight plus additional cost to flight charge difference if i don't get the passport on Monday December 24th. What i don't understand is that why do they keep telling people to pickup passport at DHL in 5 to 10 working days when they know very well that it will not be done by then. I am kinda confused with this lies and stupid drama the us embassy in Ghana is putting us through.

Sorry to hear about your difficulties getting your passport back.  However, it's been said here on VJ thousands of times that you should never purchase a nonrefundable airline ticket until the passport with visa is in your hands and that you have verified the information on the visa is correct.   We all understand your frustration, especially during the holidays.

I lost $1,000 so I totally understand how you are feeling. All I can't do is pray that we all receive tge visa next week and that this government shutdown doesn't delay the passports anymore longer. I will definitely be calling the embassy first thing Monday morning Gh time cause this is just madness.

Sorry for your (financial) losses. But we ALWAYS see people take a chance and prebook tickets before a visa is in their hands, and it becomes even more frequent around this time of year (the holidays).

We’ve even had posters come on here and ask for advice about booking tickets only to ignore our warnings about not doing so until they physically have the visa and lose out of lots of money. We know the perfect gift for the holidays is to have their loved one(s) here to celebrate this season with them. But sometimes you have to be more logical than emotional when making these type of decisions.

Also, if the embassy is working with a third party delivery services, delivery times are completely out of their hands. DHL, just like all other delivery companies, are at the busiest times of the year. Delays are expected.

Yea I totally understand now, but hey I guess you live and learn. We were just so excited that we got approved that I forgot about reading on the embassy website not to book no flights til you have the visa in hand. But all that totally slipped my mind cause all we were thinking about was getting him here before Christmas to spend with our daughter for her first Christmas. All we can do now is just qait and hope for a better outcoming next week.

Another reason it is safer to book flights after receiving passport & visa in hand is due the possibility of a severely torn "do not open" packet (if applicable)  or errors on the visa itself.

Chai, frustration sets in. I am sorry too for the delays, but just like others have mentioned, you should make sure you have the Passport with visa in it, review all the information to make sure everything is correct before you book flight. Question is, what if you get it and your name is spelt wrongly? Or they omitted a letter or two? Chai, another wahala.

So lets all bear in mind, you get it, review, everything is correct before you book flight. Sorry about your lose and delays.

I understand we have to wait to get the passport before buying ticket but why lie to people that they should pick passport in 5 to 10 working days when they know very well that it will not be ready by then. We have someone wait for 5 weeks now yet had not had their passport but she was told to pick up passport after 2 weeks. The people working at the embassy are not honest people. They playing stupid drama games with peoples life and emotions. They could have told them to wait for  emails before they go to Dhl but not the case but they give you specific number of dates to pick up the passport when they know very well that it will not be ready. The Dhl office is just 10 minutes drive to the embassy. They said if the embassy call them to pick up they will do so within minutes with a motor bike and distribute the passport to owners. The delay is not Dhl but the US embassy in Ghana is not honest and also don’t respect Ghanaians. From all the us embassy in the world Ghana is the only place they do this stupid things. Anyone that goes for interview had no place to sit than under trees outside the embassy even when there is storm ️ or whatever they have no place to wait than under dusty tree outside the embassy. I blame it on Ghana government who sold Ghanaians us borrowing money each and every day so whenever there is a problem they can’t talk about it because they may no longer get loans from them

Well, you still have a point and i certainly understand your frustration my dear. All i'm saying is, even if they tell you to pick up your passport in TWO CLEAR DAYS, wait till you have it in your hands, make sure everything is correct before your buy tickets. Since i joined visa journey, i have read lots of people share their experiences and advised you make sure you have it before you book no matter what they tell you.

That's what i will be doing anyway.

You see now your frustration as gone as far as blaming the Ghanaian Government?an fly out I'm still sorry my dear and i hope you get it so you can fly out or your spouse join you soon. I'm very sorry.

LESSON TO ALL OF US.

GET YOUR PASSPORT WITH VISA.

REVIEW TO MAKE SURE EVERYTHING IS CORRECT

BUY TICKET

FLY...........................................................
