Sell the car back to the dealer, I suspect that what it is worth should be enough to pay off the loan.
It's very unlikely the value of a car bought on a 5 year finance was ever worth what the balance of the loan is. Also, with some car loans you pay all the interest up front, so that towards the end of the load you owe very nearly the full purchace price.

How about an unpaid parking ticket ? (USC)

I would advise getting that paid. It can be possible that unpaid parking tickets escallate into a want or warrant for you; which could eventually cause some issues.

Have'nt ever heard of anybody in the U.S. ever having a warrant issued for unpaid parking tickets. Worst that might happen is they impound/boot your vehicle if they run across it. Still a good idea to get it taken care of.

My best friend, who was 60 at the time, got hauled off to jail one day for unpaid parking tickets that her kids had!

Did they get an earful.

I should be able to sort out something without resorting to having the car repossessed. I just wanted some info incase my worst case scenario happened. I've been told from a friend that I cant legally sell the car then pay the debt off because technically the finance company still owns it. I dont know how true that is but ill be making enquiries with them tomorrow.

That's incorrect.

You can quite legally sell the car if you inform the finance company and the buyer of the car.

However, you'll have seven days after you sell it in which to pay off the outstanding balance. The person buying the car would of course have to trust you to pay it off or it could end up getting repossessed from them.
