Gas Prices - Cheap in my area

Saw gasoline for $1.80/gal. today.

Some of the low prices are "cash," with higher ones for credit/debit; however, this one wasn't.

My Sunoco card automatically reduces pump prices by 5 cents/gal., so if their usual price is in range of other stations', I usually come out fine there.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

Was up in St. Petersburg FL yesterday and filled up.  Reg was $2.01.  Much cheaper up there than where I live, but man oh man the drivers....

When I moved to Naples so many years ago an old man told me  "there are a lot of old people here in Naples, and all of their parents live in St. Pete!"

Noticed something interesting today.  Driving down a major thoroughfare I passed three Speedways in a span of about five miles.  The southernmost was at $2.08, the middle one at $1.96, and the northernmost at $1.85.  Not sure why in five miles the price would drop $0.23 cents, but the northern one was the busiest.

Here in my area of the FL Keys regular is $2.69.  If I drive 18 miles up to Marathon I could get regular for $2.19.

That's OK for filling jugs for the boat, but I need diesel for the SUV, and there is only one station on the island that has it, and they are getting $3.49!  A trip to Marathon gets me diesel @ $2.89.  Fortunately the SUV gets great mileage so I won't need to worry.

Oh, and for all of you suffering from crappy winter weather, it was mid 80's here yesterday, and should top out right at 80 today.  Was 74 when I went outside 6:30 this am.

Nice now... By mid September the 94 degree heat and 94% humidity gets a little tiring.

The heat doesn't bother me so much, but the Russian wife has some trouble with it.  She is missing snow and cold, or so she says.  We will see how much she complains when I take her to Boston at the end of January.  At least she will be happy to wear her fur.

I still need to make it down your way one of these days.  Have only been as far as Islamorada thus far.

Here in Lauderdale, prices are around $2.44-$2.70.  Florida has to make up for that lack of income tax somehow, I guess.

Let me know when you are coming down.  Unfortunately because of the wife having health issues we are never sure when we can get away.  Going to Coral Gables this Friday to see her specialist again.

Better yet visit Naples.  A nice and attractive town without the crowds of Lauderdale or Miami.

From now until the end of March the Keys are a mess.  I drive down after work Thursday nights to avoid the traffic.  This trip we came down Friday morning and I regret it.  If someone needs to make a left turn across traffic they will be waiting quite a while.
