That's correct. It still blows my  mind that the process can take a year or more. We used to live in Australia, where we met. When we decided to move to France she got a one year visa within 2 months and then completed the process to get permanent resident status once in France. I don't understand why the US doesn't have a similar two step process that would avoid people being apart for so long.

I agree with you... I guess they are afraid of all the frauds and make it that way to discourage people...

We traveled for 2 years and then we also did the paperwork for my husband to get the one year visa, only a few papers though (birth certificate and wedding certificate basically), and one week later, he had his visa in hand... I think the french make it easy from the beginning, but then the spouse has to go with the one getting the visa every year to renew it.

At the end my husband found a job in the US, not in France, so he never used his french visa and we are now apart since November. It's really weird when we were never apart before that.

Have to wait to hear from the NVC for that I think?... it seems that is taking some time from what I have read on VJ. At this rate it may take longer than NOA2 😂 thanks to Potomac.

Approval of the I-130 meaning it is being passed to the NVC, NVC then assigns case number and requests more money and the financials etc (I think)

Congrats!

The discrepancy in processing times between the centers is really upsetting 😤

It really is! Obviously very pleased to be one of the lucky ones, but the difference is so big, so unfair and seemingly so random. My heart goes out to everyone that has been waiting for so much longer than us, in fact to everyone in this incredibly stressful process x
