It's a no win situation. When you are dealing with an enemy that has no regard for the civilians that they hide behind there is no way to win without killing innocents. It's a crappy situation but it is the reality of dealing with terrorists. Gone are the days when two armys stood in a field of battle and duked it out. We are now dealing with an enemy that has no regard for their life or the peoples lives around them. All they care about is inflicting enough pain that the civilized side gives up. It's what you get when you deal with animals.

Its not the first time this sort of thing has been attempted and its rarely worked in the past. Israel has tried for years to eliminate terrorism with force. I guess everyone can judge for themselves how successful that approach has been.

So what is the solution? Any radical group that wants to win just inflicts casualties and we let them go? It seems with you that letting them have their way is the best solution. Unless you can give me a better solution that seems to be what you are advocating.

Quite successful. Of course they didn't eliminate it 100%, but 85-90% is a good number.

Judging by the fact that a major anti-Israeli terrorist group won significant strides in their last election - I'd have to doubt that, considering its the factional dispute that's the cause of the current problems over there. Making the entire civilian population hate and fear you - and getting yourself universally condemned for human rights abuses doesn't seem to be terribly effective to me.

I don't think there are any quick and easy solutions.
