Pure hypothetical.  President Trump proposes moving to a health care system on par with Australia as a compromise to get the funding for the border wall.  Would the Democrats accept that?

I don't know about the democrats, but heck to the yeah.

The border wall is 70 Billion Max.  Can you make that happen?

Democrats would oppose full universal health care with no strings attached whatsoever if Trump proposed it simply because Trump proposed it. They would oppose something they otherwise strongly support rather than give Trump any credit for being part of it.

That sounds strangely familiar.....I remember plenty of that happening against the President of the United States between 2008 and 2016.

I'm making myself a wreck waiting for results.

Take solace that you're in as few pieces as possible, si Y ma'am.

You're not there yet, but here's a characteristic of Old Age:  one body part says to the others, "Oh, yeah?  You think that's bad?  Well, watch this!"

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

Universal Healthcare is the only way to go. Democrats wanted it back in 2009 but Republicans refused to budge crying about Death panels etc etc so we ended up with a plan that was in the middle, the ACA. The ACA wasn't perfect but for the very first time it gave access to health care for those with pre existing conditions. So let's go further and leave the dinosaurs in the Republican party behind. The British gave Universal Healthcare to their population in the 1950s for crying out loud!

Democrats did not want UHC in 2009 which is clearly evident since they had all three branches of government at the time including the ability to get it through the Senate and they did not pass it.  The GOP had no ability to stop the Democrats at that point regardless of their rhetoric.  So answer me this, if the Dems were so invested with UHC, why didn't they pass it when they had the chance?  Maybe it had something to do with cost.  As to the UK system, they have some major issues with the NHS including the sustainability.

Btw, President Trump tends to lean toward a UHC system, so apparently there is some common ground for you.

The dems didn’t want UHC because in spite of all their posturing and promises of “caring for the people”, because as @Lil bear pointed out, it will not work in the US without destroying many lives, and setting the economy back several years (at least in the short term).

But I think the BIGGEST obstacle to improving healthcare in the US is the fact that from the top (the president) down several levels (all of congress, and not sure how much lower it goes), the people who make the decisions are exempted from living under the same rules of health care and insurance that we all are.  Until they are forced to use the same standard of care, there will be no significant improvements in the healthcare arena.

I agree with the second part. The first part, if I'm frank, imo shouldn't even be a consideration

Give one example of something republicans strongly advocate for that Obama was for and republicans all of a sudden went against to spite Obama. I recall Trump proposing a deal on DACA that democrats would have jumped on a few years ago. But because it came from Trump they opposed it.

Here’s John Boehner, the likely speaker if Republicans take the House, offering his plans for Obama’s agenda: “We're going to do everything — and I mean everything we can do — to kill it, stop it, slow it down, whatever we can.”

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell summed up his plan to National Journal: “The single most important thing we want to achieve is for President Obama to be a one-term president.”

So what specific example do you have of Republicans opposing something they previously strongly supported because Obama supported it?
