No way

I agree, the Democrats cannot let President Trump appear to win on anything even if it meant not getting Universal Healthcare.

Mom has never had an issue receiving any of the care she needs under Medicare. No hoops or red tape, and it has paid for everything she has had to go through since her diagnosis. There are a few hoops her doctors must jump through in order to provide her pain medication, but that's on them. My Dad on the other hand isn't able to get certain medications he previously had now on Medicare, but it did also used to be very difficult to get any regular insurance company to pay for them without extensive hoops either.

I never found insurance premiums to ever be affordable for myself or anyone else that I know, pre or post Ocare. Me and my husband are very fortunate for the insurance we have now and how much his employer shells out for it. One trip to the ER, and they billed 7 grand for a couple of hours.. just this week I considered going back there but held out until I could see a specialist that will probably bill a lot for tests. The only thing we have had to pay is about $180 so far, on our old insurance we would have been paying a huge chunk of that. He hates how much comes out of his paycheck for it, but he sees the value when he gets to see the EOBs.

As for doctors: guys honestly, I look at some of your statements sadly. Many doctors, nurses in my family, and family members that have worked for doctors for years, and all the doctors I have personally dealt with - did not get into health with the desire to make money. Their goal was to help and heal people. Spend enough time in cancer wards, trauma centers, and pediatrics to see the very best kind and selfless good doctor's who are fighting for people's lives. Some make a comfortable living, but a lot have money issues just like the rest of us, and still others have practices that until you see the money figures behind the scenes, you'd realize what's coming in is just to keep stuff mostly afloat. I have no issues with doctors making money though, in many cases they need better staffing and supplies too. It still remains difficult for doctor's and their staff to fight insurance companies who want to constantly deny ease of life or life saving medication for patients simply because they don't want to pay for it. That is one thing that has never changed even with Ocare.

Apparently these Drs. did.

Wishing you a speedy return to good health, Y ma'am.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

Hard to say. I don't think that either R's or D's are truly interested in a universal system. As I've often said to hubby, there would have to be fundamental changes to how the electorate views government, taxes, and healthcare. To make it work in America vast and expensive changes would have to be made. It's a bold, big idea but one that seems to scary a subject to try. Increasing taxes isn't something Republicans have been interested in for ages now. There are problems still with the Australian system too and knowing those problems, you could imagine them increasing if we tried something similar. Until Americans can agree that the government has a narrow and reasonable responsibility to provide for the safety, security, and health of it's citizenry - notions of such hybrid systems are merely far away dreams. Nobody thus far has the courage to do it.

The problems with the Australian system are small compared to the problems with the US system

IMO, for the US to transition to any form of system like the Australian, it would take the total dismantling of the “ health care industry “ and would result in approximately 7 out of 10 who are currently employed in the sector to have no job moving forward. That just can’t  happen as the consequences of

such huge changes in employment couldn’t be managed without massive economic hardship for too many people .. therefore it won’t happen. It’s too late. The web created by the health  care industry here is too big, too entangled to be dismantled

Universal Healthcare is the only way to go. Democrats wanted it back in 2009 but Republicans refused to budge crying about Death panels etc etc so we ended up with a plan that was in the middle, the ACA. The ACA wasn't perfect but for the very first time it gave access to health care for those with pre existing conditions. So let's go further and leave the dinosaurs in the Republican party behind. The British gave Universal Healthcare to their population in the 1950s for crying out loud!

It's not their money, so it costs THEM nothing, he is suggesting compromise between Trump and the Democratic party, you consider that worthy of consideration or just reject it it as a matter of political rhetoric

It doesn't ultimately matter that you believe UH is the way to go... anymore than someone believes a hybrid system or some compromise is the way to go. As it stands the idea is not taken root in enough minds of the American people. It's a bold, big idea, one that would have to undergo vast changes to our entire system and way of life. And as mentioned above by another poster, there would be far-reaching negative consequences too that would have to be considered and counterbalanced. There are many reasons why such systems or hybrid systems work in other countries and would have significant problems getting off the ground here. Politics is one small part of the bigger picture.
