What's everyones' experience of how long the whole wait and interview process at Montreal takes. My interview is scheduled for 8:30 and plan on being there early. Would I be able to make a 2:00pm flight out of Montreal? I'm leaving my little guy at home and want to get back to him as soon as I can.

My wife's "interview" in Montreal was definitely the worst that I've ready on these boards so far, and we were still out of there in a few hours. Her appointment was for 8:30am, we got there around 7:45ish, and we were out by noon. I'd try to schedule the plane trip a little later than 2 though, just to make sure that you're not going to get nervous while waiting, since I'm sure you'll have some butterflies already. Good luck!

My wife has been back since June 5, 2007. Now we're just livin' man, L I V I N :)

Being the kind of person that tends to err on the safe side, if you can wait for a 4 or 5 pm flight, I would.

Hmm. Hard to say. We were there for a few hours, at least. The scheduled interview time definitely did not coincide with the actual interview time. But there are different lineups for different visas so yours might not take so long. Like everything in this process, "it all depends". 2:00pm might be pushing it. But, then again, you may be in and out in no time. No way to tell. Don't forget to factor in traffic and airport security delays and such.

Good luck on your interview!

I thought it may be pushing it. The next flight out doesn't leave unitl 6:30 gets in Winnipeg at 11:00 and then I have a 3 hour drive home.

Ugh. I can see the dilemma. Worst case scenario.... purchase a ticket that will allow you to change the departure time with a minimal administration fee. Or, if you miss the flight, some airlines will just automatically reschedule you (as a standby if full flight) onto the next flight.

I posted what I went through a couple of weeks ago in Montreal in another thread.

Remember, it is first come first serve, so if possible try and show up at 7:30 A.M.

Also, 2 O'Clock is cutting it close for your flight. There's a ton of construction everywhere (damn potholes) up here and traffic will come to a stand still at the turcotte yards on the way to the airport from downtown (even in the middle of the day!!!). Anticipate your travel time to be about 1 hour from downtown to the airport.

Good luck.

Hi Everyone,

I had the interview for the K1 Visa in Montreal this morning. Here are the details of the process if anyone is curious. I kept a pretty accurate timeline of the entire process out of curiosity.

7: 40 A.M.

Arrived for a scheduled interview of 8:30 A.M.

The security guards asked for the interview letter and passport. We didn't have the letter because we were notified last Friday of a cancellation for this morning and this was how we got the interview. As I had suspected, we were not on the "LIST" and the security guards were wonderful and called upstairs to sort things out.

7:58 A.M.

We went through security (very thorough with the hand held metal detector) after we were cleared from upstairs and told to go to window 14 on the 19th floor.

8:08

We were given ticket at the counter and told to look for our number.

9:12

Called to window 12. Provided all the necessary paperwork, etc... The lady seemed quite irritated that i didn't have a photcopy of my passport... I couldn't keep my mouth shut and told her that nowhere in packet 3 does it state to have a photocopy of my passport... Luckily it went well. We were given another ticket and explained that we would be sworn under oath, fingerprints, etc.. shortly with another individual.

10:10

Called to room 7 where they took fingerprints, swore me under oath and asked some very simple questions regarding our relationship. I was asked approximately 15 or so questions, pretty straight forward. I was told I was approved and would receive my envelope back within one week.

10:22

Left The building...

Everyone was quite friendly and helpful, the interviewer even went so far as to say that this is a walk in the park compared to actually crossing the border (POE) if you ger a customs agent who is having a bad day... Although the interviewer stressed that he was speculating based on what he heard, he did say I may want to avoid the the temporary work visa once i've entered the US and simply adjust our status once married because people have been granted permanent staus before they've even received their temporary work visa. Just a notee i thought i'd pass along.

All in all it was a nice experience that warranted none of the stress or anxiety I felt the last few days leading up to the interview.

By this time next week i'll be with my finacee across the border...

I checked with Air Canada and they had more flight options out in the late afternoon than Westjet. It actual ended up being cheaper than Westjet too. Go figure that one. Booked my room at the Days Inn downtown. The hotel accross from the consulate Tour de Ville was booked. I've stayed at the Days downtown before and I know that everything is within walking distance anyways. So I think I'm set.

Glad you were able to book a later flight. It's interesting about Air Canada. My flights out to Vancouver were waaaay cheaper on Air Canada than on West Jet when I booked earlier this year.
