K1 visa approved about 2 months ago ...

We just got packet 3 with an interview date for 10 days from now, and have not yet found a co-sponsor. We were expecting to get an interview date after packet _4_, which was supposed to be sent after we completed packet 3 -- so this interview date totally caught us off guard. I need a co-sponsor because I've been unemployed by choice the last 15 months, living off my savings... so I basically have no income from last year. I actually have enough in the bank to cover our living expenses for the next 8 months, but with no income last year .. I think they'd want liquid assets for the next 5 years or something ridiculous like that. Bottom line is I think we need to find a co-sponsor ASAP.

So lets say its the day before the interview (9 days from now -- gulp), and we still dont have a completed I-134 from a co-sponsor along with all supporting documents. Should we re-schedule? Should we go to the interview without a co-sponsor? What's the best approach.

I hope I've provided enough information .. and I did try to search for an existing answer. In the case of missing a medical exam, the answer was to go to the interview, and they would give the visa upon supplying the medical exam result. How about the case of not yet having an I-134 co-sponsor? Assuming we are forced to reschedule, anyone have ideas on the "turnaround time"?

Hello...

I was also in a situation where a week before the interview my fiance (now husband) was unable to send me the I134 to me. So i contacted the consulate over email (they dont reply on phone in my home country but pretty fast on emails) requesting rescheduling my interview since i did not have complete documents.

The reply which i got from the consulate was that i should come over for the interview with whatever documents I have and they would keep my case on hold till i do not present the missing documents. The email also stated that rescheduling an interview could delay the process indefinitely.

So i went ahead without the affidavit but i had all other documents with me including his pay stubs etc which proves his income. (Well in my case my husband makes well above the minimum and he was eligible to sponsor me. He failed to send across the I 134 since he was out of town and sick)

Surprisingly I was approved without the Affidavit of support and the visa issued the very same day of the interview.

I could not believe that my case was not put on hold..

Though income requirement is a very important criteria, in my opinion rescheduling could stretch the process really long.

You might as well go for the interview with incomplete docs like I did...If they hold up your case till you arrange for a sponsor, it could still be faster.

You can email the consulate and let them know like I did...

Thank you so much divs for taking the time to give me such a detailed response! It sounds like you

were in the exact same boat. Also to the others that responded so quickly.

I'm going to call the embassy and try to get a feel for the re-schedule situation.

I called the Peruvian embassy and they said we could re-schedule, that we would receive a new appointment date in approximately a week, and that the appointment would be approximately 1 month from that date. That would give us more breathing room w/ regard to co-sponsor paperwork and be perfect for us -- if its true. Even if the interview date is 2 or 3 months from now, it would still be fine with us.

Has anyone on this board successfully re-scheduled a K-1 interview with Peru? Can they be trusted to follow through with their promise to send a new appointment date within about a week?

We successfully re-scheduled and received an updated packet in the mail approximately 2 weeks later, and the interview was re-scheduled to approximately 1 month after the original date.

divs76,

Shouldn't be surprising at all. Most people just do not seem to understand that I-134 is not a required document for the K visas unless the consular officer decides that it is. It's optional at the consular officer's discretion. Sounds like you provided sufficient evidence of your sponsor's ability to support you so the consular officer did not exercise his discretion to request an I-134.

generic_user,

So are you going to come back to the USA and use the time you've gained to look for the job that you think you should have no trouble finding? Or are you going to keep looking for someone else to sponsor your fiancee's visa?
