It also depends on how long it will take for your specific consulate to give out

interview appointments after you are finished with the service center , some take weeks , some take months and some are stuck in NVC for a while and if you will be put on AP/AR after the interview.

It is best not to plan anything until visa in hand.

I don't know how common AP is for SA.

I had plans for a wedding and of course that was a waste since we are now stuck

for 5 month in AP after the interview.

Search for other SA members an the embassy reviews.

Good luck on your journey !

It looks like SA has a fairly quick turnaround time at the embassy, so with no slow-downs, you might make it. HOWEVER, the universal advice here is DO NOT put any money down for a wedding that you cannot get back in full if you need to cancel (which happens fairly often unfortunately).

Just saw this thread. Welcome To VJ! I'm another USC with a South African fiance. We're about 1 and a half months into the process, in that horrible waiting purgatory. There aren't a lot of USC/South Africans here, so we should all stick together! I'm not far enough into the process that i can offer an advice about prospective waiting times yet, but I'm rooting for you! Hopefully it won't be long before our petition gets approved and we can offer you a better idea about how long you'll have to wait.

Good Luck!!

Ok...so I've decided with all the encouragement to go for it on my own!! I need some help on filling out the form in these areas:

Where it asks for the address that my fiance intends to live, what do I put since we do not have a house yet? My permanent address?

Since my fiance is now back in South Africa from his visit to the US in March, do I skip everything listed under Question 12 as well?

What is an A#?

Thanks for all advice!

As far as the G-325a form goes, I'm a bit confused in that the checklist says I (US Citizen) am supposed to fill out and sign it, but the I-129f form says that I must include one for me and for my fiance and both be signed. Do I fill both of them out and do I sign both of them or does my fiance need to sign one as well? I can't find any examples of this in the example forms.

PLease read this checklist:

It says on there everything you will need.

You fill out one set of 4 G325A and your fiance needs to fill out the other set of 4. Each of the 4 copies needs and original signature. When your fiance sends you theirs it would be good for them to send you 2 or 3 copies so that you can resend the application quickly if the original gets misplaced.

17th March 2010 - Started the removal of conditions process

22nd March 2010 - Application received by CSC

30th April 2010 - Biometrics appointment

Thank you! Amazingly enough, I've found 2 places that said I do not need one for him and two places that do. Even a lady at the USCIS said he would need one for his interview, but I didn't need to send any in for him with the visa application. It didn't sound right, so I'm glad to find this out.

Question: Can ALL the forms that I send in be copies of the originals, including the g-325a and the I-129f, the fiance letter of intent, etc.? Again at some points some of the guides and forms contradict one another on this issue.

Thanks for the help!

All the forms/letters that you fill out to send to USCIS need to have original signatures on them.

Be careful on the G-325A because it is not 4 copies of one form...if you look at the bottom of that you will see that each of those go to a different place, ie, 4 original signatures needed (just thought I would throw that in there because it didn't make sense to me in the beginning ^_^ ).

Hope that helps.

I need help with a few things:

1. What kind of medical will my fiance have? Full medical? Is there any place that will tell me details about that?

2. My legal last name is different from my parents. Since I have always gone by their last name for all practical purposes, all of my e-mails have my parents last name on them, so when I turn that in as evidence of ongoing relationship, it will cause suspicion if I don't explain. Any suggestions on what I need to do to sufficiently declare this?

3. My fiance was going through his ticket stubs, boarding passes, etc., from his trip to the US in March and found a slip of paper that is labeled US Permit. He was given this at customs but was never asked for it again at any point of his travels from or back to South Africa. The permit states in fine print that failure to turn that in before leaving the US can result in a delay in reentering in the future. He has proof that he has been back in SA since April 7, so it shouldn't cause too much of a hassle.

Does anyone have any information on such a permit and if it's something to be concerned about?

Medical comes wayyyy later. Don't worry about it now, keep your head in this stage of the game. Medical is in the 4th quarter, you're still at the coin toss. (and unless he has TB or HIV, he'll likely be fine, don't worry about it).

To emphasize what was said above - the I-129F and G-325A and the original letters of intent to marry (see examples on this site - SUPER short letter) MUST be original - that means original signatures, etc. You can fill out the G-325A for him, if you wish, but you'll need to mail it and have him sign and return it. It looks much worse than it is - if you fill it out on a computer, you fill in the first page, and the last 3 auto-fill with whatever you write on page 1. It can't be saved, but you can print it and poof you're done.

Write down your legal name where it is requested. If there is a space for other names used, write that there. If there is not, do not worry. If the names on your passport and birthcertificate match, then you'll be fine.

What is on emails doesn't matter because you DO NOT need to send any emails as evidence at this time. They are not evidence of anything.

You need to show evidence that you intend to marry - that's your original letters of intent. And you need to show that you've met in person w/in the last two years. This is shown via primary evidence: passport stamps and boarding passes are the most comment, best forms. Secondary evidence - such as photos - can help, but on its own does NOT satisfy the requirement. Emails and letters do nothing for you.

For more on evidence and the problems people have faced when sending in the wrong thing - check out the "RFE" thread at the top of this K1 forum.
