CANADA/MTL When EXACTLY do we do DS-160 after NOA2?

Questions i have that i could use some help on for CANADA/MONTREAL K1 VISA applicants:

1) Do we complete the DS-160 and use our USCIS/WAC number and confirm after getting our NOA2?

2) Do we pay for the visa fees same day, same site or can we do that separately after we get our NVC case number?

Also, can i please request that *just for a bit* not move these questions to a relatively inactive subforum that don't/can't/won't answer questions regarding this stage as most active members are doing spousal visa in my sub-forum?

I did my ds 160 when the status of my case number says “READY” on the website. And I cant remember which number I used for it.

Montreal will have to send you the packet 4 for you to be able to pay visa and schedule an interview.

"You can't hurry it along at all. You have to wait for P3 which takes 2-4 weeks from Ready. Comply with what they ask for in P3 (the actually one they send you) by sending them a copy of the signed P3 checklist, your DS160 confirmation and your Passport Bio. Then they send you P4. Then they tell you to register to schedule and you'll wait some more for interviews to open up, which only happens once a month during the last week of the month for two months ahead UNLESS you are lucky and you scoop up a cancellation. Get your medical appointment first so you can schedule the interview shortly afterwards"

Also, i've read what was written previously but still am asking what number i use for the DS-160? Is it the NVC case assignment number or the USCIS "WAC" assignment number?

And, do we do this right after we got our NOA2?

Thanks in advance

I see, so i will need a NVC number to check the status at CEAC and then fill out the DS-160. This makes sense but i've seen conflicting posts saying "you can do DS-160 with the WAC case number" so, its confusing.

To be clear, i will not be able to track our NVC case at the website pictured below until i get that NVC number.

We will not be allowed or cannot do the DS-160 until i get the NVC case number and it says "ready" on the site pictured below.

I am not the only lost one here so i appreciate the help. Sometimes we over think things that are dearly important to us.

Thanks all.

CEAC website is for when it has been assigned a case number by NVC, this is not your USCIS case number.  Have you called NVC for this number yet?

Fill out the DS160 after you get your NVC case number.

You’re going to have weeks between when you get it and when you get Packet 3. There’s no rush and completing it as soon as your number is assigned by the NVC isn’t going to speed things up.

*rechecks my original post* Hm, ermm who said anything about "rushing" anything? I am simply asking a question or two to clarify the processThis website also has TONNES of conflicting "advice", old information, dead links and from posters and selective attention, competing "experts". I see we started this process at about the same time so we are now both "soon 2b experts" *giggles*. Thanks for the informative tip my CDN friend.

But can we do the DS-160 with WAC number or just NVC case assignment number? That was the real confusing part.. because a poster here said we "just use WAC when we do the DS-160"..

DS-160 should be completed with the number you receive from NVC

Well I'm going to throw my hat in the ring.

All you need to submit DS-160 is the USCIS number better known as the WAC number which is the WAC #. You can use WAC or NVC case number or you can leave it blank. It doesn't matter for K-1's.

The DS - 160 is a document that stands alone. It does not require a "fee" to submit.  It does not affect anything. It does not need to be finished to do anything else but needs to be completed for the interview and it can be completed between now and the day before your interview. You can't use it to find any information about your case. You can't use if for anything other than for its original intent and that is for the CO to use during your interview to adjudicate your case. The only exception is that some Embassy's require you to complete it and send them the confirmation number and then they will allow you to schedule the interview. The one embassy I know off the top of my head is Japan requires it before scheduling. Check your P3 letter. I think I have given it to you @Smashy. If not let me know as I have a copy for MTL.
