Maybe it's the way people are raised, some people don't mind doing what's wrong, or accepting people who does that. I happen to think if it's illegal, it's not right, it's not acceptable. Period.

If we're talking about, say, stealing, then I agree. You can't bend the laws to fit the fact that you forgot your wallet that day. The law is the law.

If we're talking about slavery, then I can't agree with you. We can't trust laws, which are made by humans, to always be right and moral.

news flash, we ain't talking about slavery here

Questioning the law didn't end at slavery. Unjust laws still exist, and they are questioned every day.

For example, there are those who feel that laws allowing abortion are unjust. Those laws are questioned every day. Good thing.

There are those who feel a progressive income tax (i.e. the more successful you are, the more you pay) is unjust. That is also questioned. Good thing.

Telling illegal immigrants who have set roots here, who essentially live here, that they must never be allowed to integrate into the very society that insists on their integration.... is not just.

yeah, i see the analogy. not.......

We all have our blind spots :P

just remember that those 20 million will, upon being granted legal status, will also be eligible for for public assistance programs. bet you didn't see that in your blind spot

enjoy your tax increase to help pay for that

Allow me to respond to that with an anecdote.

There's a town near me, urban poor area. Census says population is about half-Hispanic and half non-Hispanics. But overwhelmingly poor and criminal. I drive through there quite often and the only people I ever see 'hanging out' outside, presumably doing nothing, are the non-Hispanics. Always. Every time.

If there's strain on our public assistance program, it'll be from our home-grown bums. We have plenty of those. Maybe watching these Mexican young adults who don't speak a lick of English making money with a leaf blower will inspire some of them. Or maybe not.

maybe we can force a trade. we get their leafblowers, they get our bums :D

If you put it that way.....duh.

I don't understand why you say duh! Everyone has different opinions on this subject. As you can see from the poll people have voted "none" to me, that means, they don't think there is a problem with people being illegal or an immigrant. Not everyone thinks that illegal immigrants are a problem. I happen to think that they are, but that is my opinion. So, I fail to see where your comment has any significance in regards to this topic.

I'll explain. This poll was supposed to "prove" that most people who have a problem

with "illegal" immigrants have nothing against "legal" immigrants. This poll proves no

such thing. If you ask people to choose their "problem" between "illegal" and "immigrant",

of course they will choose "illegal". The question we need to be asking is whether they

would choose "more immigration" over "less immigration", but Gupt's poll already reveals

the shocking truth.

Whether anyone wants to accept it or not...there is a limit to the amount of immigration any nation will allow. Immigration is a privlege...not a right. Throwing open the door to unlimited legal immigration to prevent illegal immigration is insanity and stupidity combined. Immigration is not about the immigrant...it is about the benefit to the accepting nation. It has to be mutual or it ceases to be desirable.

Some people whine that any attempt to regulate immigration in any way is "anti-immigrant." Bullshit! Get a grip on reality.

"Credibility in immigration policy can be summed up in one sentence: Those who should get in, get in; those who should be kept out, are kept out; and those who should not be here will be required to leave."

"...for the system to be credible, people actually have to be deported at the end of the process."

Mark, that poll is hardly scientific, and it also leaves tons of room for personal interpretation and speculation.

I think you've jumped from A to Q on this one.

As far as this poll, it was done very tongue-in-cheek. ;)

I wasn't directing that commentary to you. It was more in response to some of the adolescents that continually defend immigration anarchy with accusations of xenophobia, racism, heartlessness, etc., etc.

Ok, so here I go on my soapbox . . . . Illegal is the key word. However, I think that the immigration laws need to be reformed. If they don't fit into any visa category, that means they are INELIGIBLE for a visa, not that they should break the law, demand sympathy and expect us to capitulate. Their being here increases the need for identity theft, raises opportunities for false document producers, and lowers the wages for Americans who were doing their jobs before they came. BLS states show that pay in several occupational areas have been unindated by illegal employees dropped demonstrably below a living wage over time. This is close to slavery and why there are some here who insist that not only should illegals be allowed to be exploited by greedy employers, but American workers also victimized in the process is amazing to me!

What needs to be done in lieu of "immigration reform" (read, enable illegals), is that those who support illegals post signs on their homes informing the public that their doors are open for any illegals that wish to come occupy their space. Feed them, clothe them, pay their medical bills. Put your money where your mouth is instead of insisting that all accept that there is nothing more effective to be done other than to surrender our will and our wallets to lawbreakers.
