Hey everyone! We are filling out the i-134 affidavit of support and we are wondering if we should include the value of some of his larger purchases, namely his car, or if it’s best to leave blank? Not that the vehicle is an expensive one, just not sure we should count that under the “value of personal property” or if it’s best to leave blank. Also, this might be a silly question but do student loans count under the “mortgages or other debts”? Thanks in advance!

We filled out everything. Including his motorcycle and truck value (which isn't much), and his mortgage and credit card debts.

My thoughts are, it's ALWAYS better safe than sorry. I would have hated for it to get rejected because it wasn't filled out fully and honestly. 🤷‍♀️

Hey guys, I am having one heck of a time with Canada Post.

Our visas were mailed on the 18th and the guaranteed delivery date was last Thursday (the 21st).

The last update on my tracking says it was in Vancouver last Wednesday (the 20th)... it has literally been sitting a 40 minute drive away since.

I contacted Canada Post and put in an inquiry, so they flagged it and will update me. Smh.

It's amazing how incompetent that particular sorting facility is. How mail can get from Montreal to there in 2 days, then nothing.. it just sits. The same thing happened right before my interview with my I134 forms from my fiance.

I asked this question in the general Canada forum and didn't get a response:

For those of you who have completed your K-1 Montreal interview and been approved:  I just want to verify something about the I-134.

My fiance is the USC, is self-employed, and does meet the income requirement.

1) I plan to bring his 2018 tax return and the previous 3 years IRS tax transcripts (2018's as well if we can get it in time - interview is mid-May)

Is that enough supporting evidence or do I need a bank letter as well?

2) It's my understanding that if we meet the income requirement we don't need to fill out I-134 Part 3 #4-9.

Is that correct?

I'm paranoid because he's self employed and the instructions are unclear to me.  I just want to have confidence I'm armed with everything I need!

What did you do?

I could have sworn I just answered this question.. 🤔🤔

My fiance is not self employed, but they still wanted and took the following:

tax returns (1080) for 2018, 2017, and 2016, W2s for those years, letter from employer, and bank letter stating date account was opened, total amount in the account, and average monthy deposits for the past year.

We also filled out EVERY question on the form, including Part 3 questions 3-9.

It's seriously better to be safe than sorry, and it's not going to hurt to fill out everything.

Yes, I saw your response to the previous question.  I've read elsewhere if the income requirements have been met, nothing else is required.  I'm looking for verification on that.  Thanks for your input! :)

If you look at the I134 instructions, it states:

"answer all questions fullly and accurately. If a question does not apply to you (for example, if you have never been
married and the question asks “Provide the name of your current spouse”), type or print “N/A,” unless otherwise
directed. If your answer to a question which requires a numeric response is zero or none (for example, “How many
children do you have” or “How many times have you departed the United States”), type or print “None,” unless
otherwise directed."

Down towards the bottom of the instruction form it also says:

"Once USCIS accepts your affidavit we will check it for completeness. If you do not completely fill
out this affidavit, you will not establish a basis of support for the beneficiary and USCIS or the Department of State may
reject or deny your affidavit."

So I guess it depends on the risks one's willing to take.

Aww. any updates from them? That's sucks. The lady a while ago freaked me out in the Canada post saying my parcel was not there and asking if I'm sure I'm in the right post office. I was like can you check carefully before giving me heart attack. 😅😂

Canada Post literally just called me. Apparently they're requesting the local office do a manual check in case something happened to the barcode on the package and that's why it hasn't scanned since the 20th. "It's highly unusual that you haven't received it yet." Ummm obviously! That package is also an identity thief's dream come true.
I have also sent emails to the consulate asking them to investigate because any investigations on lost mail needs to be from the sender.

I can imagine how you feel. A while ago when they can't find my parcel I don't know what to do in case they lost it. Hope they will make a quick action and find it asap. How I wish we have an option too besides Canada post. Something more reliable in the future.

Does anyone know if the US petitioner needs a “long form” birth certificate? My fiancé has the wallet sized one with both parents names on it. Just wondering if this will suffice for the interview

US petitioner does not need a birth certificate for the interview.  Only the beneficiary is required to have a birth certificate.

The documentation from the US petitioner at the K1 interview stage is the letter of intent dated within 30 days of interview and the supporting documents for the I-134.  (And death/divorce certificate if applicable)
