I posted this in another thread, but wanted to start my own.

"Okay help a girl out here. Dan is on his way back to Canada with our *holy grail* (all the ####### he needs for this fiancee visa thingee!!!) My question is this. He has the blank DS-156 (two of these) and a DS-156K. They were sent to him by the embassy in Montreal. Now he is going to fill the DS-156 in duplicate and not sign and fill out the DS-156K (just one as instructed) and not sign either until he is in front of the interviewer in Montreal. Now are we missing something here in regards to filling stuff out electronically? Nothing in packet 3 mentions doing anything electronically!!! HELP HELP HELP!!! He is scheduled on June 1st and I need to let him know now. Thanks in advance!!

I'm thinking the reason we weren't told to do the DS-156 online is because his Packet 3 was mailed out last year in September/October. We mailed the checklist back as instructed, but included were the DS-156 and the DS-156K with instructions to complete them, not sign them, and bring them to the interview. There were not instructions to do anything online. Since it has been so long since they sent this out would it be smart to just do these online?? Even though our instructions plainly state to bring them to the interview?? Also is there going to be a problem that we didn't send in the DS-156 already with our checklist? Like I said at the time we got packet 3 they were not doing this filling stuff out online thing.

Also have some questions in regards to answering this silly form.

22. When Do You Intend To Arrive In The U.S.?

(Provide specific date if known) Don't know the date because it hinges on his visa approval??

26. How Long Do You Intend To Stay in The U.S.?

What is the correct response?

27. What is The Purpose of Your Trip? To get married??

32. Do You Intend To Work in The U.S.? Yes No

(If YES, give the name and complete address of U.S. employer.)Of course he intends to work, but he has no idea who for yet???

36. Has Anyone Ever Filed an Immigrant Visa Petition on Your Behalf?

Yes No If Yes, Who? Is this a no??? I have filed a visa petition for him??

Okay I think that is it. Help a chick out! :help::help::help:

Hey there,

http://www.visajourney.com/examples/Form-DS-156.pdf is a good example of the DS-156.

As for the other questions, this is what I put down:

22. When Do You Intend To Arrive In The U.S.?

-I left it blank; depends on the interview.

26. How Long Do You Intend To Stay in The U.S.?

-Permanently.

27. What is The Purpose of Your Trip?

-Marriage and relocation to the United States.

32. Do You Intend To Work in The U.S.? Yes No

-With work authorization, employer unknown at this time.

36. Has Anyone Ever Filed an Immigrant Visa Petition on Your Behalf?

-Put a no. The visa that both of you are filing is a NON-immigrant visa, so it wouldn't count.

Hope that helps you out!

I'd be wary about leaving anything blank on the form, I'm pretty sure that is why they are sending the I-864 back to me, as I left a spot or two blank where I didn't think the question applied to me. Even an answer like " 2-3 weeks after the interview" would be a little less risky.

Just my thoughts though, I could be wrong. (Wouldn't be the first time!!! )

Mmm, even something like "depending on visa authorization" would work. I only left it blank because you couldn't put in a written response in the online form, but I suppose you could handwrite it in.

I put "Yes" for #36...but all it was was the fiancee visa petition so according to your post I should have put "No." I hope that won't cause us any problems :(

I tried filling those fields in online but they wouldn't let me, so I too left them blank.

DS156

- He should do it online since it will generate a barcode. He needs 2 copies after filling it out.

22. When Do You Intend To Arrive In The U.S.?

- I put down an estimated date. They're not going to hold you to it. The application is used for many different types of visas so that's why it's on there.

26. How Long Do You Intend To Stay in The U.S.?

- Permanently.

27. What is The Purpose of Your Trip? To get married??

- Not sure what K1s put down (I'm a K3)

32. Do You Intend To Work in The U.S.? Yes No

- Yes, upon work authorisation. Employer unknown.

36. Has Anyone Ever Filed an Immigrant Visa Petition on Your Behalf?

- No. K1s have not filed an immigrant visa petition.
