U.S. DEPARTMENT OF HOMELAND SECURITY

Office of the Citizenship and Immigration Services Ombudsman

Dear Stakeholder,

On Thursday, December 13, 2018, from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm EST, the Office of the Citizenship and Immigration Services Ombudsman (CIS Ombudsman) will host a teleconference to explore the impact that mailing and delivery issues have on the timely and effective administration of immigration benefits.

During Fiscal Year 2018, the CIS Ombudsman saw a dramatic increase in requests for case assistance involving work authorization and residence cards that were never delivered or delivered improperly.  The CIS Ombudsman met with various U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) components to resolve the underlying issues.  USCIS adopted new practices and continues to engage with the CIS Ombudsman and the public to improve the delivery of secure documents and inform the public about how best to correct non-delivery issues.

Due to the continuing high interest in this topic, the CIS Ombudsman will moderate a discussion between USCIS and the U.S. Postal Service on the impact mailing and delivery issues have on applicants.  We will open the lines so you can ask questions and provide suggestions on how delivery of work authorization and residence cards can be improved.

We invite the public to register for this important teleconference using the link below.
