So do all he major cities have permanent military checkpoints?

I did notice going in Davao City from the south they now have a permanent Check point at Toril

Going into General Santos they have one

I assume CDO has one

Just when you think you have TDS eradicate,  a new case shows up.

There are lots of checkpoints along the way, almost every town has one. Yes there are some military ones around CDO (was just there in November). But honestly I wasn't paying attention if they were military or just police ones. But from what I know it's pretty common.

I have been all over Zamboanga del Norte in the last year. Lot's of unmanned checkpoints. Our buses or vehicles were never stopped. I was never stopped or asked for documents. I spent a lot of time out in the remotest places in the province. No issues. But, I was advised by many locals and my fiance's family not to stay in one place more than three or four days as spotters for Abu Sayyaf have been known to operate in the area in the past. I never had any problems or felt threatened at any time. The military presence was definitely greater the farther south I traveled.

Going into Davao and GenSan we were riding motorbikes, they wanted us to open our seats to see if we had anything like an explosive.  They were military guys and most were young, the were very happy to see and chat with an American, Friendly set of guys. I started carrying chewing gum and giving them some at the check points.

Last time I was in Davao in May, I was traveling with my Fiancee and 2 of her friends going to the mountains on Buda National highway. We got stopped, he checked something and let us go.
