Before someone more knowledgeable in this matter steps in, I would like to point out that aside the fact that your lawyer doesn't know what he's doing, he is taking advantage of you financially! I don't need skills to see this much is true!! You should fire him! ASAP! @sandra please come to the rescue! Thanks.

Totally agree! Fire that lawyer and go seek another one, Immigration lawyers

can cases from another State too!

Ask Lizz Cannon in Miami Fl

Stefanie Fisher in Boston, Ma

the 1st consultation is free!!!

If she can not take your case asked for a referral for another lawyer.

I hope it helps!

prices for lawyers is between $4500-$7000 plus applications fees that are $1725 including I360,I765,I131,I485.

This was the cost on May 2017.

And there is a lot of resources you can reach out for your safety. God bless

Hi everyone, I am newbie here. I have been going through vawa route.  I didn’t even know this kind of forum was exist.

I filed in December 2016. My attorney filed first step for vawa.( I dont know the form names I have to look it up later). Basically the form we submit was that the immigration was going to ask the evidences.  They asked the evidences. He submitted them all. Then my case was denied because of missing some proof. Proof they were asking was my “criminal history” from my country. Then I got them all from my country. Then he submitted again my criminal history from my country.( I think it is called appealing or reconsideration) on end of December 2018.

My work authorization will be ending 15th of February. He submitted my work authorization last year. And it came 2018 February. The fees were waived I explained my situation to the attorney.

So far I paid total 6000$ and plus appealing was 675$.

But this year to renew my employment he wants to charge 2000$ and 1022$ for filing fee.

so I have 3 questions if you can help me, I would be really appriciate it.

1-)  should I pay 3000$ for work authorization?

2-) How long does it take the appealing process?

3-) Does firing this attorney and finding another make any difference,  if so who? I am in Arizona.

I am really hopeless right now. Please share your opinions. Thanks in advance.

I am guessing that you have a pending I-485 and therefore got your work permit under category C9. If that’s correct then the renewal will be free (no fees) if it is in the same category (C9) and I don’t think you should spend so much money on an attorney that is not on top of his game with your case. Fire the attorney, file for work permit renewal yourself and save that money for the things that you need after being in an abusive relationship. I’d look up pro bono lawyers in your area. Best of luck to you!

If there is a domestic violence shelter or domestic violence department in your town or a town over I would call them and ask if they can refer you to immigration lawyers experienced with VAWA and definitely read through the threads here since there is so much valuable information on here. God bless.

You need to fire that lawyer but look for another 1st, a good lawyer has stablish fee for the job, you  must had a contract signed, read it! report him/her to the law bar of your area. It is absolutely outrageous. Take care.

The financially abusive attorney part got me rolling on the floor and laughing 😂😂😂😂....most of all these lawyers are after your money they don’t care about the success ..wise up only God is the greatest lawyer ..they have no say on someone’s immigration case, they just always like acting like God ..pray to God and be good to people and do research online to see what you want and God will see you through ...always bare in mind that so many people don’t like seeing other make it only few want the best for you..don’t think your lawyer is helping you ..he is only swindling you

There is no fee to renew your work permit, your attorney is a thief!!! run.

Your attorney screwed your VAWA because he didn't ask you to get  the police clearance from your Country. USCIS just issues a  request of evidence if the person missed to submit some document,  and clearly you can see that he is  imcompetent as well.

You can renew  the work permit without his "help".  Fill out  form I-765 and send me to review and I will let you know if everything is fine. He probably filed a motion, and a  motion takes around 5/6 months to be adjudicated.

If you are renewing the work permit using same category C9  and paid the filing fee when you submitted your I-485  then there is no fee to renew, but he has to submit a copy of the I-797 as evidence of the filing of form I-485 .
