So all this talk on SSNs taking forever prompted me to call my local office this morning see what was up.

I applied for my SSN after being in the country for 3 and a half weeks, and it’s been another 4 weeks since I applied. My save case check has also showing “sent back to agency” for weeks now.

The lady that answered my call today asked for my reference number and then just said - I’ll go ahead and issue the card you’ll have it in two weeks”

- low key don’t believe it’s that simple 😂 I’ll  keep you all posted if it arrives 😂

9 weeks since i applied for my SSN

Rang them again today, to be told the manual verification came back on the 26th Nov (i also said i saw this on SAVE) but for some reason it says “in progress” still on their system... so now they have finally escalated it to their “specialist”

They are aware my I-94 expires on 10th Jan & will call me back next Wednesday... i give up.

Nice to see some familiar faces in this post.  Mailed AOS packet for my wife (so good to say that now) and her 2 kids on Dec 24.  They received it on Dec 27.  Received text last night stating that it has been received and have MSC#'s for everyone as of Dec 31.  This absolutely has to be a better waiting period compared to the K1 process, since we are now doing it with one another.

I have my SSN since 2015; however, I went to apply for my last name change on Nov 28th, and I haven't heard anything back from them since then. SAVE Case Check website has been showing "Returned to Agency" for the past 4 1/2 weeks.

I just got off the phone with one their representative, and the lady informed me that I CANNOT get my last name changed until I receive my green card. How true is it?

Partially true. It's rare to get it changed before DHS updates your name in their system. That will happen when your EAD/AP or GC is approved (whichever comes first).

You could get lucky and get an SSA agent who doesnt follow the policy though. So the majority of us apply to update our original maiden name card into our married name before the I94 expires and hope for the best.

Thanks you so much for your prompt response @K1visaHopeful.

Yes, that's what I did as well (my I-94 expires on Feb 9th). They accepted my docs (mc, passport, I-94) without asking for anything else, and that's why when the lady on the phone mentioned something about gc, I was in doubt. O well, will see what's going to happen.

Well I just called my local Social Security office and they said that my case is still pending. They connected me with the person who is handeling my case but that person is not in the office today so I left a voice message.. The SAVE website says that my case has returned to agency so hopefully they will call me back with some good news soon :(

Nope. Every time I call they ask me my last name and then forward me to the agent who is dealing with my case (who i have been told is sitting at her desk as they can see her before they transfer the call). She wont answer her phone so I am forced to leave a message which she never returns.

It's such a horrible and inefficient system :(

If I won't hear anything back the next couple of days then I will just go to the office instead of calling.
