“update my visa number”

Well THAT part is a load of rubbish. Mine has been sìtting on someone's desk since the first week of Nov. I haven't been able to go in person so I'm stuck calling. Yours is undoubtedly sitting collecting dust too due to "holiday staffing issues".

This is a normal occurance. What has happened is called Manual Verification. Tne most common reason it happens is that your I94 name doesnt match what is on file with DHS/USCIS. The reason it doesnt match is because CBP inputs your name as it is displayed on your passport. In most passports your Given name is listed as your First name and Middle names combined whereas USCIS has it listed as the official way as your first name and then middle name sperately. SSA is forced to input your first name as both your first name and middle name combined as they have to input it into their system EXACTLY as CBP has. So when SSA runs you name with DHS it does not match. Then they are forced to turn over to DHS to confirm that you are the same parson applying as that is in DHS's system. That is what is called Manual Verification. It usually only takes a few days to have it verified as correct by DHS and then they send it back to SSA. Unfortunately when it gets there it usually sits on someone's desk for processing.

Check out your passport and I94 @B-B and @decfiler and compare your info to what I have said.

The only thing you can do is keep calling. You can also check the status of the Manual Verification check on a website called SAVE CaseCheck (google it). It will state whether DHS is still reviewing your case or if it has been returned to SSA. If it's been returned to SSA already you have all the more reason to be bugging SSA and can tell them you know your file has been verified by DHS and returned to SSA and can ask why it's not being processed.

Thank you so much for the information! So I went to the website you described and my case status is saying this:

Does this mean that my documents are verified now?

Its 8 weeks since i applied for SSN (i waited 2 weeks after my arrival to apply so my I-94 was updated on their system so it aload of rubbish waiting for manual verification, it seems that certain SSO choose to do it regardless)

My I-94 expires on the 10th Jan 2019

Sick of waiting, so yes there is other people having issues with getting SSN.

Have you also checked in the SAVE case check if yours has been returned?

Yup! That's is exactly what it means. Unfortunately though, because you did not see when your status changed to "return to agency" you cant really know how long SSA has actually had it back from DHS.

In both cases for me, my case was returned to SSA in less than 6 days.

Okay perfect! So I probably should go back to the SSA next week to see if they can give me an update. Or will they notify me soon now that my case is back at the SSA?

It happened to me.  I went a few days after my arrival and was sent for manual verification.  Handed me a letter saying it will arrive in 4 to 6 weeks.  6 weeks after I called again knowing it was ready in SAVE. They said they would follow up and for me to call again in 5 days. I did and left a message.  The lady in charge of new cards called me back and said they were still following up.  I was told I did not have to go or call again.

I got another letter after that call saying I had applied and would receive SS cars in the next 10 business days.

4 days later I got my card in the mail.  This was all in the Hoboken, NJ. Took around 7 1/2 weeks in total.

Hi fellow December 2018 AOS filers, got the biometrics appointment letter in the mail today - biometrics appointment set for January 7, 2019 in Nashville, TN.

So far the below has been the progression of things for us since we began the K1 process:

I-129F NOA1 -- 01/10/2018

I-129F NOA2 -- 07/19/2018

K1 Interview -- 10/03/2018

POE -- 10/10/2018

SSN Application -- 10/11/2018

SSN Card Received via USPS -- 10/26/2018

Wedding -- 11/14/2018

SSN Name Change Application -- 11/20/2018

I-485 Packet Mailed (via FedEx) -- 12/11/2018
I-485Packet Arrived at 131 Dearborn Address -- 12/13/2018

SSN Card Received via USPS (with married name) -- 12/17/2018

Temporary Driver's License at DMV received -- 12/13/2018

I-485 Check Cashed -- 12/19/2018

Hard Copy NOA1 (I-797C) Notice Date Listed -- 12/18/2018
I-485 Receipt from USCIS via Text/Email Notification -- 12/19/2018

Hard Copy of I-485 NOA1 Received -- 12/24/2018
Biometrics Appointment Letter for I-485 and I-765 Received via USPS -- 12/29/2018

Biometrics Appointment  for I-485 and I-765 -- 01/07/2019

(Note: I had to call the SSA office and inquire about my new/name changed to married name SSN card since at 3 weeks I still hadn't received it and I was concerned. As many of you have described, DHS sent back the clearance at exactly 2 weeks from when I requested it but the SSA office didnt process it/click issue SSN card basically. I was one of the fortunate ones, and the lady on the phone said she would select issue for me now while we were on the phone and i got my new SSN card a few days later. Don't stop calling if it's taking over 3 weeks. At some point you will get someone that will perform the simple task needed on their end, and click "issue card").

Question: my first name has a space in it. That’s how it’s on my passport and how I wrote it in the AOS forms. Some of the NOA1 letters had my name with the space and some didn’t. Based on Usps informed delivery, today I’m getting my biometrics appointment letter and it’s addresses to me with my first name without the space. Which is not how it’s supposed to be legally. Do I need to call and have them change it? Or is it not a big deal
