The first time I went to SSA, they told me there is some info they need to check because some data didn’t match. The guy there said normally it will take 4 weeks, but it took two weeks. Second time I went, they sent me a letter first(I got it on 11th December) telling me that the card is coming and Monday the card came in the mail.

I don’t know if you need to show up on the lease. Our mailman has to come inside the apartment building and security let’s them in. My building management only takes in mail from people that live in the building, letters addressed to people not showing on the lease system is sent back.

Regarding USPS, even the first gentleman at SSA told me I need to register with them at the post office that I live at my husband’s place. I did it online,  but I had to wait for a code to be sent so I can prove I am living there. I would advise to go at any post office with ID and marriage licence, if you changed your name after marriage and if you applied for SSN in your married name(I applied before I got married, therefore, I had to register at USPS with my maiden name for now and put my AOS package in name of my husband, because my SSN was coming under my maiden name).

Ok. Our apartment building doesn't have security and I received mail on my name already.

I apply for the informed delivery with USPS today, but to do the in-person verification I would need some form of ID or the lease showing my current address and I don't right now. I also try the mail verification thing. So I guess I just have to wait for the mail (?).

Anyway, Thank you so much for sharing your experience :)

Yes just wait for the USPS Informed Delivery mail. You cant do it in person at the post office because you are not a US Citizen.

The mailer will give you a code to sign up for Informed Delivery online and then you'll be good to go.

Hey, thank you for the tip of this SAVE case check.

It just says "Case returned to Agency" and under description says "SAVE has returned your case to Maryland - Social Security Administration, SSA (Single Signon)". I guess Maryland is the HQ of the SSA, because I didn't apply in Maryland. Just still don't know what it means. I guess I should just wait. Not even 2 weeks have passed.

It means DHS has confirmed the details they have on file for you. It doesn't mean that you are approved for the SSN. It just means your case has been returned to your local SSA. When SSA gets around to it they will either mail you your card or a letter of denial. Mine (card or denial letter) has been sitting on somebody's desk at my local office for 7 weeks too. I call for an update with no results other than that are working on it.

I couldn’t receive any mail until I was added on the lease and registered that I live at our address with USPS. It’s weird because we lived in other buildings and I got the mail before. But the SSA officer told me to do so and I got it the second time. He definitely told me that I need to.

Bare in mind the mail verification takes a week or so. So sooner you request it, the faster you get it.

You can if you want. 4 weeks is the time they tell you to start calling at. Unfortunately I keep getting same response that it's the holidays and their workforce is reduced by 75% at my local office. If you get to talk to the person that has your case on their desk count that as a Christmas blessing.

That’s unfortunate🤯 and you went back to ssa to inquire about it?  Probably the person that you had wasn’t following up. I would go back and talk to someone else if possible

I've called...over and over. The person handling my case (each officer deals with certain letters of the alphabet by surname) wont pick up the phone even though she is in the office (officers sitting next to her desk have told me she is in). I cant go in person. No DL. No transit.

Thats not true & its hard to be patient when it seems to be a ongoing issue with SSN at the moment, your lucky if you had no problems.

Thank you all.

I think I am just gonna wait after Christmas to call. Maybe meanwhile I get the letter.

Thank you and have a Happy Christmas!

Just make sure you chase it before you I-94 runs out, they should be aware of your date anyways, but keep onto them when it gets closer, just incase they then suddenly refuse to issue it due to their time frames... which im worried is what will happen with mine, unfair 😕

Happy Christmas to you too!
