I just received the combo cards! It took 4 days from card being produced to have them in hand. Now at least I get to apply for jobs and get the ball rolling while USCIS sets up an interview  for the GC, it will be a long wait my LFO is San Francisco.

So it's been 203 days since my PD and about 37 days since they got my RFIE. I just here to vent because I just lost out on a job offer due to this processing too way longer than first anticipated back in December 2018. 😢

So I contacted USCIS and got in touch with a tier 1. They basically told me there's nothing they can do until it hits the 60 day mark for the RFIE.

Also, yesterday before my offer got rescinded, I got in touch with my senator's office. I filled in all the forms they requested and sent them back. Hopefully they can help push it along a bit although they make no promises obviously. I do hope I get an approval soon as we're pretty much at the end of our savings. Two more month of this and we'll be at risk of not being able to pay our mortgage and bills. 😫 Never in my worst nightmares did I expect to be out of work for 8+ months.

Hi, I am sorry. I feel you. It has been 214 days for me.  😞

Can I ask you what exactly you said to your senator?

I contacted my senator too couple days ago and I filled out a form explaining my problem. And I got a response asking me if I want expedite, but in fact I don't have ground for the expedition (no job offer, no emergency situation etc.). I am trying to understand if representatives can help only with expedition.

Well, I don't know if they will take up my case or if my reasons to expedite were compelling enough. My reasons were that I needed my EAD expedited on grounds of severe financial loss. Simply stated if I don't start working within the next 4 weeks, my wife and I will not be able to meet our financial obligations ie. we are at risk of bankruptcy. We would hit that point in about six weeks and so I worked out my deadlines from there. It takes at least two weeks to get paid in a job so that means I need to be working within 4 weeks of today. Who knows what's going to happen. Of course I'll do everything I can to stay afloat and I might have to lean on family although I'm loath to do that. But even we last beyond 6 weeks from today, it would pretty much ruin us financially for years.

We had our aos interview today. They asked my husband a lot of questions about his medical records from home from when he was born, not his birth certificate, they asked for his high school diploma and we didnt have these documents nor did I see it listed as being needed. He had his college diploma but they didnt want it. The whole interview the guy signed and shook his head. At the end they said they would review it. If they ask us for a midwife certificate from his birth, that's not something we could possibly get. He also said these forms needed to he verified by the US embassy in his home country, which he cant attain since he cant leave. Has anyone had this experience?

Had my AOS interview in Chicago this morning. It was completely painless and lasted around 10 minutes. The USCIS officer, a very pleasant woman, had my wife and I swear an oath after which she went through each question on the I-485, asked us to tell her how our relationship started, asked for evidence of co-habitation/marriage then told us everything looked good and she needed to review the case and run some security checks. She said she hoped to be able to approve the application by end of day and that I should receive my green card in the mail in 30 days. That was quite literally it. About 4 hours later the case tracker app notified me that my card is being produced. A few points to note:

  • I was not asked for an I-693. I was not even asked for a DS-3025. I adjusted from from a K1 visa and my medical is less than a year old.
  • The I-485 interview notice you receive in the mail is critical. Keep it and  ensure you bring it to your interview.
  • My EAD/AP combo card was not taken. I expected that it would be.
  • To Chicago applicants specifically: Uber/Lyft or take the train if you can. Parking is a nightmare. There are a few parking garages around but they're expensive.
  • While choosing your outfits, bear in mind that you will have to go through a TSA-like scanner (shoes, belts off, pockets emptied etc).
  • You will be assigned a number when you check in. Numbers are NOT called in order so don't freak out if a higher number is called before yours is.
  • Cell phones are allowed.
  • Evidence documents I provided were:
  1. Joint lease
  2. Joint health insurance
  3. Joint renters insurance (cheap to obtain and very useful generally)
  4. Joint gym membership
  5. Joint bank account statements
  6. Joint Amazon Prime (Amazon household)
  7. Credit card statements with authorized user transactions itemized (Amex does this)
  8. Joint tax return
  9. Federal tax return check
  10. Cell phone family plan
  11. Airline confirmations/itineraries
  12. Photos

By the time I was nearing the end of the evidence pile she said she doesn't need anymore and I could keep whatever else I had. Although she didn't ask very many questions, I believe the key is to remain calm, be prepared and be conversational.

Good luck everyone!

That's why you need to contact USCIS about your RFE for your I485. It's been too long. They usually give themselves 30 to 60 days to review the RFE documents and make a decision.

If they've made a decision in your favour, your case is likely at your LFO waiting an interview slot availability but then there is no reason your EAD and AP are being held up.

If they've issued you a second RFE, you might not even know because you may have missed the mailing and your status didnt update stating you received a second RFE. You need to call ASAP and find out about the I485.

I called USCIS and she said my case was still processing. I didn't get any detail but I think that means another RFE wasn't issued at least.

I don’t know if she’s Tier 2, but I will try tomorrow again.

I waited for 50 minutes until I could talk to the person, but talked only for a few minutes.

You need to ask for a Tier 2.

You will automatically get to talk with a Tier 1 which is who you will ask.

Tier 2 gave us very little information when we called earlier this month, too.  Just that my stepson's aos/ead/ap were still processing.  He had 2 biometrics appointments - one in February and a second in May.  When I asked about those, the tier 2 only said that he saw that he saw the appointments took place but had no additional information.

As luck would have it, his EAD/AP were approved 2 days after that phone call.  We got the card yesterday.  But still so frustrating that no one seems to have any information now.

That’s weird that had two biometrics.

I saw twitter of USCIS, about that the number of Green Card applications has been the largest in the past five years.

Anyway

Glad you got the card yesterday!
