Congratulations you all as you guys are one step ahead, I just want to know as you all are at NVC stage how did you file your Tax returns, Single or Married file separately? and at this point what year of Tax return is accepted by NVC 2017 or 2018?

I filed my taxes as single. If you put married but filing separate, they ask questions about your spouse. I believed they ask for SSN too but I can’t remember. That or ITIN, which she has neither. Technically, they are not U.S. citizens or Green card holders yet so it won’t be a big deal for the IRS. Plus, in my case my wife has yet to receive any funds from a place of employment in the U.S. Not sure about yours. If they have, you will need them to get an ITIN if the job they worked for didn’t get them a SSN.

NVC will accept your recent tax returns. That includes 2017 if you haven’t done 2018 already. They only require your most recent tax transcript (which is a file from the IRS showing your last filed taxes) but I sent my 2018, 2017, 2016 W2’s and my 2017 - 16 Tax transcripts just to be safe. I also sent my last two pay stubs for good measure.

Hope this helps.

I have a question for those of you guys who already have a case number! How do you find out that case was already assigned? By calling NVC, by email or by letter? And it really take 7 to 8 weeks?

you would have to call Nvc about a week after you get notified that your case was sent to them and ask if they have received it. if not keep calling as it should take 1 weeks for them to get it from your service centre. when you get the date it is received you can count 6 to 8 weeks from that to know when you will get your case number.

approved : November 26

sent to Nvc :December 6

NVC Rec : December 13

case number February 5

so mine was approximately 7 weeks and 5 days

Oh ok thanks. They previously said that they receive it on February 4 but when I call Friday they said that they received it on February 2. Ok I will calculate approximately when I will get case number!

Hi, NVC told me they received my case on January 3rd and to wait 8 weeks for the case number. I got the email around 11pm last Friday February 21st with the case number (my husband also received the email). So it took 6 weeks and 5 days for us.

Just to update, I paid the fees 2/21/19 right after receiving the case number (I wasn't able to log in for the first 10 minutes after getting the email). The fees took only 2 days to clear (paid Wednesday, fees showed as "PAID" in CEAC on Friday). I started uploading some of the documents but not all since I haven't done my taxes yet. We submitted the DS-260, then noticed the next morning that we made two errors on it ( I made a thread about it here https://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/699106-mistake-on-ds-260-worried/).

I'm done uploading all the civil docs so the link changed from "INCOMPLETE" to "NOT SUBMITTED" but I told my husband to go and have a new photo taken because I don't think the one I uploaded for him will meet the qualifications. I plan to finish uploading the  AOS documents this weekend after my taxes are done then I will submit both packages together and hope and pray for the best.

How ? You didn’t get the case number as yet, april I don’t think so, maybe May or June.

still have to pay fees that take almost a week to clear check.

then have to wait for them to review it which take 2-3 weeks. The send your page to the country not sure if they email them or mail them.

Depending on how soon your country take to give people their interview date.
