This has probably been discussed many times before, but I cannot find the threads.

Last Friday I spoke to someone at the NVC and they told me that I will receive a letter and then pay a $70 fee, then get another letter, fill out the I-864 (Affidavit of Support), then pay another fee of $385 for the immigrant fee.

However, today, I received a letter from the NVC just saying that within a week the petition will be forwarded to the Guangzhou consulate and my wife will "soon" receive her packet, and what documents she must prepare. This letter referred to only the I-129F petition. Will I receive another for the I-130 petition?

Also, how does one know when the packet leaves the NVC for the timeline? Do they send another letter in a week after it leaves?

God grant us all patience and understanding.

The person you spoke to last Friday, accurately described what would happen for an I-130 and CR1 process. Your letter accurately describes what happens with an I-129F/K3 case.

Call NVC at 603.334.0700-1-5, give them your I-129F case number, not you I-130 case number and ask them the status. They'll give you the date they show as leaving NVC. It doesn't mean it was actually shipped out that day, just that it was cleared to go. You'll never actually know the date anything leaves NVC even though they tell you "We sent it on X date.
